weaving pattern with stick

how do you guys like to weave your caps for vertical welding?, box weave, u motion, z motion, rainbow motion? which do you find is most consistent,easiest and gives best appearance with 7018 ,6013?Last edited by Paddypower; 08-23-2013 at 08:47 AM.
Reply:I weave based not on any given pattern, but based on how the weld reacts by watching the puddle. I use all of the above depending on the circumstance and what is working best.I like to do a demo where I switch patterns while continuing to weld the coupon for students. When I'm done 95% of the time you can't see when and where I changed from one pattern to another. ( usually when you can tell it's just at the start of the change, usually because I get my glove caught on something) I do this to show students it's not the "pattern" that's "magic", it's the operator. This is especially true when they hit vertical. They can get by doing what I like to refer to as "timing" patterns in flat and horizontal, but that never works in vertical or overhead. At that point they have to learn to read the puddle and react to it. How well they do usually depends on how well they grasp this concept..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Like dsw said use all the above some things require you to do every " type" of weave I was taught by some very talented welders amd with practice my vertical weaves look like thye were rolled out in flat position.
Reply:I think everyone here knows I suck at weaving a 7018 uphill, but I had my best luck with a rainbow motion.
Reply:Depends how I feel. Prefer the " Z ''.  It depends on what kind of body arm position I'm in. When I was young, this old guy made each one different just to show off his talent. He was one amazing welder.
Reply:I prefer a texas lace also known as the figure 8.  I also do what DSW does.  Whatever the puddle calls for.  Most everything now you can't weave as they all way stringers.
