I'm looking at getting a Miller LMSW-52 spot welder. Is it imperative that I purchase the unit with a timer? I'm not into production welding, just tinker out in my pole barn and need to spot weld some sheet metal from time to time.
Reply:I have a very old one and have gotten along fine with out a timer. You will figure it out. DanD
Reply:Did a bunch of vent doors using one recently. Worked great. The timer would be nice but it wasn't really needed. We hit the duty cycle a few times but once we figured out the cycle we just staggered the work. Note that it doesn't come with tongs! Here's a little more info from our adventure:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=281701After we finished the job I found several used units with timers and the works for less than we paid for the unit and tongs new. You might check ebay before you pull the trigger.
Reply:Thanks guys, that helps a lot! Forhire, yup was aware that it came without tongs.
Reply:I think the timer would be great but I would not pay what they want extra for it. I bet you could come up with something pretty cheaply on your own though. |
