Local shop has an ad on Craigslist, so I called and I go in tomorrow to talk to the owner. For most jobs, I'd dress up as nice as I can in the best clothes that I have.I plan to do the same here, but should I take something to change into in case he says 'Here, weld this.'?My experience is limited to welding class in highschool, 15 years ago, and the yard art I started making in May of this year.  The lady I talked to today knows that, and they still wanted to know if I'd like to come in and talk to them. Thank you for any advice!
Reply:Dress as sexy as possible
Reply:So kilt, crocs and cut off red tie die shirt that now looks pink?

Reply:Clean work cloths. Be ready to jump in and show some skills if need be. If that means  rolling up your sleeves and tucking in your tie, so be it.My weld rep would sometimes wear a dress shirt, tie, and baseball jacket. He would crawl under a car in a moments notice.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I believe that you should go to a job interview dressed for the job. I would wear clean work clothes to an interview like that. Just my 2 cents.
Reply:Think I'll start off by handing him this.  Attached Images
Reply:I keep coveralls around just for those occasions when I'm wearing clothes I don' want to ruin but need to get in the dirt.  You might want to get a pair and keep them in truck you'll be surprised how often you pull them out.

Reply:Have extra work clothes with along with hood and welding bucket. Be ready IF he want's to see you weld. You could always say my hood and gear is in car.
Reply:If the person you talked to seemed like a working class hero, wear clothes as nice as you would be willing to weld in.If there's a corporate / white collar tone to them, dress up and bring a seperate outfit. The two welding jobs I had to actually interview for, one seemed like they were real worried about having me run a few beads, then all we did was talk about what I had done and whether I "felt" like I could do these other things (which I didn't want to do, but said I would 'cause I needed the job). The other seemed totally casual and like a gimme, so I went in basketball shorts and a t shirt. Welded up an angle iron frame and got the gig. Just prepare yourself for whatever. If you fight long enough, you will win. The problem is it costs too damned much.- Lee Cheng
Reply:The lady I talked to seemed pretty down to earth.  Looking at their facebook photos, they all seem pretty much like that.I can tell you this, I'm nervous as hell about tomorrow!
Reply:I would drive past the place and check it out. You can tell a lot about a business and the people who own it from sitting across the street for a little while.I agree with this:Clean work cloths. Be ready to jump in and show some skills if need be. If that means rolling up your sleeves and tucking in your tie, so be it.
Reply:, which then means the crotch is down by my knees
Reply:Dress for the job/position your applying for.  Dress nice but like what has been said be prepared to roll your sleeves up.  As for a suit and tie for a welding position may get you some laughs and could cost you the job opportunity.  Just my opinion though.  Good luck with your meeting.seabee78
Reply:cotton button up shirt and work pants and boots clean of course dress for the JOB you are not applying for an office job have hood and gloves in handif you came in to where i work and had on anything different i would just show you the door its funny i have been interviewing at my work recently and have had a few come in suits or dress clothesMiller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:Thanks all.  Going in with some FR pants I have, that are clean, button up shirt and a winning attitude.  I studied their webpage and FB page last night to get as much info as possible.Leaving here in a minute.  Have a good day!

Reply:It was pointless.  I could tell from the moment I walked in he wasn't interested.   Then they told me they wanted someone with more experience.  That's fine, but they knew my experience level yesterday, so why have me come in?

Reply:No kidding, that's just rude.  Sorry to hear about that.seabee78

Reply:WTF !   Why waste someones time  and gas and be so rude. Sorry man, it sucks when you gotta work. Hopefully something will come up , keep the faith !Thanks.  Interviewed this after noon for a wheel repair place. That interview went a million times better.  I'd basically be my own boss, which would be nice.

Reply:Even a dud interview is worth going to. Know how to handle an interview is a skill worth having and the more times you do it, the better you get at it.Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:Sorry to hear that man.I have no idea why people want to yoke others around like that. If they knew your experience level beforehand, as you said, why bother. Some people are out of it and / or just nuts.Good luck on the wheel repair gig. If ya get a taste of being your own boss, after a few months you'll be downtown setting up an LLC and then you can show them all where to stick it. I'm serious. Good luck and forget the looney BS.If you fight long enough, you will win. The problem is it costs too damned much.- Lee Cheng
Reply:Thanks all.  I'm trying my best not to build awesome stuff and then post it to their fb page.
Reply:I usually wear the same type of clothes that I'd wear while working at that job. Several times in the past, I was hired and put to work like 'Right Now'. If you're going for a welding job, bring your 5 gallon bucket with welding-hood, leathers and gloves.Dougspair
