Well it's been a week or two since I posted and yesterday *I THINK* a good opportunity came my way. One of my local stores had the hobart handler 125 on clearance, it was the demo unit I believe. The regular price was $599 plus tax, so here in Ontario that would be about $680, I got it for $280 taxes included. The unit is brand new, it was missing the box, the manuals, the contact tips and the nozzle. They also had the autoarc (made by hobart) 1/12000 auto darkening helmet for 50% off, so I got one of those for $69. They both seemed like good buys.I had already put in a 50 amp receptacle connected to a 30 amp breaker, I was going to try an ac225 and see what I could do with the 30 amps. I know the handler 125 is only 115v 20a draw but being that it's dc and I remember reading most welding was done between 100 and 120 amps I thought that hopefully it would be a good choice. I downloaded the manual from Hobart and I'm going to pick up the contact tips and nozzle today.I hope I made a good choice!Matt

Reply:I can tell you that you can't run 1/8" 7018 off 30 amp breaker. My buzzbox was ran off a genny and set to 125 amp DC. Would pop the breaker withinn 5 seconds of welding. Most say you'll be able to run 3/32 rod without a problem.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Thank you DRF, I just posted another thread minutes ago, I found a deal on a hobart handler 125 so I no longer need to worry about the 30 amp, just picked it up yesterday!Matt
Reply:You won't successfully be able to weld anything much thicker than 1/8" material with that 125 machine. |
