Reply:any friends in the area that weld? any fab shops? Industrial areas? ask around...I found local places by just asking around at my LWS to find where they recommend to buy metal stock. online places seem to charge a good deal more than local to pad what they charge you for shipping. Check out a google map of a industrial area and zoom in close enough to see what stores are in the area.
Reply:You might try Joseph Fazzio's in Jersey. I've only been to their Glassboro NJ and New Castle DE locations. It's well worth the trip. They have a ton of new as well as surplus tools and equipment, plus steel, stainless alum etc that they will sell by the piece or by the foot.http://www.shopjfi.com/company-infoI also often deal with Finkels Hardware in Lambertville NJ. They have a decent selection of materials, mostly steel, some alum, small amount of SS and brass. They will also sell by the piece or by the foot..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Holy cow, you can't find a steel dealer in suburban NYC? You're probably in the world's capital of steel service centers.Try the online Yellow Pages or something like that. Use search terms "steel distributor" or "steel service center."
Reply:RS Phillips in vernon nj is where i get my stuff also check the sheetmetal shops in the area you are at ask for the blackiron breaching scraps
Reply:lol ...new jersey spawns alot of 'fake' companies that overcharge you to get material... McMaster Carr is great if you need oddball sizes or oddball materials but cost $$$$. check heating and cooling for cheap sheet metal(but that seems to be dented ,scatched and rusty ) (so ask about it) in 2006 i started running a metal department for Acme Plastics so did alot of ordering.(the girl who ordered materials had no idea about metal...only plastic). so she is running the whole purchase for Acme with it's multi sites across the US . she wasn't making much there so she quits and works goes to work for a banquet hall. The guy that takes over can't handlethe job but is like getting paid 5 times as much of the girl(and then gets two or three helpers) so the new guy at a meeting is taking over the ordering metal process (to help the company save money) So one day i walk in his office and he is cursing out someone on the phone... saying he found a cheaper and faster supply.... and he will never 'deal with their company ...ever again) later buying personal material ...i found it was Denman & Davis in Clifton ,NJ... that our idiot purchasing agent was cursing out... and Poojo?( i think she was the nicest salesperson i dealt with with my 5 years at Acme....)I never met her personally., but did call up and tell her i had nothing to do with that idiot!... the material did arrive but was the same time and price as D&D also quoted ...(not faster or cheaper)(as the (800) company promised .as I laughed and dropped the 1/4" x 4 " x 8" hotroll on the vice president's desk .. it was ordered as a 4x8 FOOT sheet ...lol! and guess who it was channeled thru? and Delivered by? yep...Denman and Davis!!! I was later laid off and blamed fo mistakes made in China....I was only building Prototypes for approval by the customers and most of the tme i never saw the final products (unless i had to sit up all night to fix them)but places that do cut to size have material around and scrap it back.. but be nice in your request and if they don't have onhand what you need they will often give you the place you need. most places have not lasted due to taxes here ... so what is left... is there and trying to hold on... most places that produce might give you the stuff for what they will get from the scrap guy(if anything) or even if you bring coffee and cake to offer before the request |
