Was at the the old metal yard the other day and found a couple of 4 foot sheets of 7075 aluminum they let me have it for a few dollars. Two quick questions. Is it really unweldable and is it bad for you to weld since it contains zinc? Thanks

Reply:Pictures a must.
Reply:You can weld it but dont try to put any force on the welds, they come out real brittle and may even crack cooling down.
Reply:Sounds like welding moly
Reply:Dave, FB and Iron:What do you think the results would be if he spool gunned it with a 30a? Personally I have never welded any of the 7xxx series, If I get into really crappy castings like pot metal, I start reaching for some solder and flux.Last edited by DougAustinTX; 03-30-2011 at 11:25 PM.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma

Reply:Its very weldable if you have the right equipment, but I don't know of anyone that has a friction stir welding machine in their garage. |
