Hi there people, having some problems whist arc welding T joints, I'm using 6013's and i will very often get slag inclusions at the start and often in the middle of the weld too. I've tried changing amps, adjusting rod angle and tried keeping a tight arc but nothing seems to work, although about 1 in every 3 welds will look very good. it doesn't seem to make a difference what size of rod i use or the thickness of metal, i still seem to have the problem. I had ago at running some beads along the inside corner of a big chunk of heavy angle iron with 4mm rods and didn't have the problem.. seems as though having less of a sharp corner makes it easier. so yeah any advice? I'm using DC, have tried bot DCEP and DCEN.also I haven't changed to a different rod as i love the way 6013 looks when i turns out good and T joints are the only ones I have problems with.any advice would be great  cheers
Reply:What works for me is turning up the amps enough to just drag the flux on both sides of the joint. Last pics I posted with 1/8" 6013 were about 130-135 amps AC.  Rod angle is nearly straight in - about 85 degrees.Runs easy for me that way.  Even when run hot, if you long arc you can get slag holes.Dave J.EDIT: here's the link of what works for me: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...uty&highlight=Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 09-13-2013 at 03:45 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Thanks dave i will try that, do you find that you get better results on AC with 6013?
Reply:Well, I like it on AC.  Try it and see what you think Whatever setting you end up liking on AC, remember it will likely change for DCEP.  Generally I turn it down about 5 amps or so.Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Picts would help me see what issues you are having. As mentioned long arcing often causes issues, so does traveling too fast and out running the puddle among others. Your comment about not having issues when working with angle iron makes me wonder if part of your issue isn't travel speed. If you are oscillating between the two sides and not going slow enough to fill and allow the puddle to catch up to your arc, then you end up with slag inclusions..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
