I am trying to get myself alittle more known on this forum. I have said before that i am a commercial fence contractor. So i thought i would show some recent pics of a job i am finishing up. The school required about 6 thousand feet of chain link. Most of it was 6' high and some was 8' high. It also had about 300' of orinamental iron which was a pre fabbed product. However there was something neat added to the fence. They requested a cut out of a child doing a summersault. I have a buddy of mine at a fab shop that recommended Alliance Lazer in Slidell to do this work. I have to say they did a good job, no ruff edges at all. I spent all day this past Saturday priming and painting the little boogers. I also took a pic of the pipe notcher we use in the field. I caught the pic as the notcher was being removed from the trailer so it is not straight in the photo. We use a Williams notcher that will notch up to 2 3/8 OD pipe. This is the largest we ever run into and that is mostly for cantilever gates. Next probect up for me is a correctional training facility. 8' high chain link with 3 rails welded and razor wire. Fun Fun......Oh forgot to mention my wife made the cad drawing for the child. Attached Images

Reply:BudI had split up with a 3 way partnership in 04. Had a real good thing going but one of the partners went over the deep end, long story. Anyway things looked good for me. Then in 05 Katrina slams us. Then the cheap labor south of the boarder took over. I had to go to enid OK for a job hoping to make money. That year i was up there they had the worst rain fall in 100 years. A 5K foot job with a chain wall that was to take 3 months tops turned into 9 months. Lost my butt. Somewhere there was hurricane Gustave in there too. Them the housing crisis and 4.00 a gallon fuel. Then Bozo the clown takes office and all accounts recieveble turned into 60 and 90 days. Has not changed. Everyone I know in business has the same problem with recievables. Now I am a commercial contractor not residential. I dont get money up front or even when i finish the job. I allways have to invoice on a AIA document and wait at least 30 to 45 day. To answer you question, it is very tight. last week a job in Houma La for the housing authority was valued at 485K. It had 5600' of ameristar 6' montage II with one gate. My cost of mateiral was 239K. The lowest bid was 285K. There is no way they are getting it that much better than me. I know the low bidder and have seen him do this many times. He will get the job and do it too. I dont know how much he left on the table but i venture to say he could have raised his price 100K and still got the job. Money is too tight to mention. Good luck to you. I have some real good contractors that go after jobs above 2 million so i try to keep them happy and they do what they can for me. Untill bozo gets out of office this is going to be the story. Sorry to say the future doesn';t look good either. Just wait till all the money bozo has printed gets in circulation. A gallon of milk will cost 10 bucks.
Reply:I have a job to work on in a couple of weeks for a correctional training facility. 8' high 6 ga wire, ooofff. 3 rails all welded and razor wire. ONly one gate to fab up. Gona install a Chamberland 575 on it too. 4" terminal and line post. 1300' thru the gate. that is it all i got. Usually I have a years worth of work sandbagged. Not anymore. I am trying to negotiate another school job with a good contractor friend of mine and hopefully that will fall right in line. Some stuff has come out for bid here. What i have noticed since we got the new head bozo in charge is that you need to stack up your work at the begginging of the year for the rest of the year. If not you go hungry. That means sell low and grab all you can. YOu ever check fed biz opps to see what they have going on in FL? I know many people dont like fooling with the fed but they got the printing press.
Reply:Sounds all to familiar, I do Residential, Commercial and Industrial, Anything i can get right now. I will check into that fed biz opps. Good Luck, I have had a lot of good guys I work with that had there own business for years jump ship recently to get a "regular job"American by birth Southern by the Grace of God

Reply:what do you guys recommend for an anti climb solution, the yard next to mine keeps getting broken into and they are using that as a way over into my yard and out of the view of the cameras. They cut the chain link with some bolt cutters and topped the barbed wire and razor ribbon with the same bolt cutters.I really want to make their lives miserable if they want to cut the fence or climb overOh and im cheep.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
