i bought a used unit the other day. it has the .023 wire in it. i welded a couple things and it makes alot of noise in the drive unit area. I have welded alot with my dads miller but never messed with the tensioners or any of that jazz. i was reading the manual and if i understand it right 4 has less tension than 2? is this correct?it is getting close to the end of the roll of wire i also read that they start to have problems feeding the last bit of wire. true?I have a 8pd roll that came with it but the adapter wasnt around. suggestions on where to buy one?
Reply:I believe "4" is at the bottom of the scale and you have to wind the knob a good bit to get to it, so it should have the most tension (I have the HH210, same drive system as far as I can tell). Mine will feed right to the end of the roll, no problem at all. Just increase tension until the wire doesn't slip (the manual shows running the wire into a board to see that it curls and keeps going). Any tension more than "enough" is likely just making life hard on the drive assembly so remember, less is more.Hope that helps.KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175
Reply:How do you like the 210? i am about to buy one.2-Lincoln idealarc 250/250, lincoln 225 ac/dc welder, lincweld ac 180c, hobart handler 210, hobart stickmate lx 235/160, Hypertherm Powermax30local 26 I.B.E.W Electrician
Reply:The 210 is a fantastic welder (and one of the best I've used, though I've not used nearly the range of machines that many of the members here have tried, I've used several over the years). I've never had any duty cycle issues. Heck, I've never managed to get it to blow more than slightly warm air out of the exhaust, even finish welding a roll cage (skipping from piece to piece on nascar style door bars on both sides of the car and welding almost constantly for a decent period of time). It doesn't have the duty cycle of the pro class machines, but it has never been an issue and I've run it pretty hard on some days. It lays down beautiful beads and has enough power for about anything a home hobbiest (racer, hot rodder, etc) is likely to run into. I've also been impressed with the arc stability on thin stuff. It works very well on the low end of the power scale as well.If you don't need a pro class (60% duty cycle or more) machine, I think you'll be extremely pleased with it.KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175
