Thinking of building a heay duty round bale cart. I know how I want to build it, but am having trouble finding heavy duty spindles and hubs. Does anybody know where you can buy a 12,000 # spindle and hub assembly? Thinking something with a 8 or 10 bolt pattern that I can put a 445 super single semi tire on.
Reply:If you are going to use semi tires why not use semi axle? Are you planing on 6 or more bales?
Reply:any semi trailer axle would do, DOT limited to 32 or 34000 a pair, not a house trailer mind you, van or flat bed. I believe DOT has spread axles at like 20000 a piece. find ya trailer junker and have at it. good luck! DOT ratings are less than the designed rating. I would look for either a front burned trailer a van trailer that was sardine canned etc, they can be gotten for pennies on the dollar and will have all your running gear, if you want to remove te brakes (dont recommend it unless its stayin on the farm) you can pull the air cylinders and just fab a rod end bracket to hold it "open" instead of gutting it (unless you want to)added if you can get the steer axle off a tractor they are DOT rated for 12,800 and it would be a drop axle for all intents and purposes, but that would require a seriously tough bar to hold the steering in place etcLast edited by Ryf; 02-03-2012 at 01:37 PM.Hobart Handler 190 Century 90amp on FluxCraftsman 200amp buzzbox
Reply:http://www.humphreystrailerparts.com...000lb-axle.htmspendy ....what about an axle out of an old school bus or straight flat bed truck?round here i've seen em use the whole bus frame, remove the engine and body, then hook the front axle up to a trailer tounge so that it steers. kinda neat
Reply:umm, why on earth would you buy new/refurb, a school bus might have that axle rating, would have to check it to be sure. a 26,0000 lb+ box truck would have a good axle for sure not really sure if thats the same axle as a bus or not.Last edited by Ryf; 02-04-2012 at 09:30 AM.Hobart Handler 190 Century 90amp on FluxCraftsman 200amp buzzbox
Reply:Any single axle of of a trailer (commercial) will have a rating of at least 20,000 lbs. You can get stubs or complete axles. Where are you located? This would make it easier."Liberalism is a mental disorder" Dr. Savage
