Fix what?

A guy brought this by the shop today and wanted a goat cage built on it. I had to ask, "On that?" It had to be the very worst case of a trailer I'd ever seen. It was still being used too. It was total junk and I was able to convince him to take it across the scales at the junk yard.It had two different kinds and heights of tires on it, one radial and one grave digger. There was only 4 lug nuts on one wheel and 3 on the other.I counted 9 pieces of metal used to make the axle stronger.The hitch had a long gap along one side where the weld had burned completely through when it was built.I have absolutely no idea what the 4x4 that was duct taped between the axle and the frame was for. It looked important though.Definitely a custom built trailer. Attached Images

Reply:If the 4x4 is pressure treat I would save it for cribbing, about it, maybe a spare lug nut or 2. That duct taped block probably has something to do with a failed spring. Reply:Is that rope structural?  I'll bet all of the holes make the thing go faster (Speed holes!)If not cut down on the overall weight.

Reply:After WWII Guy got welders and started to build trailers out of every scrap they could find. I have seen alot of trailer like this built and repaired with what ever was handy. I would not usit but the fact it is still around garantes that it has held together and been used a lot. I haul scrap Iron and clean up old farm steds I run on to things like this all the time.

Reply:The 4x4 block was used as a bump stop for when he over loaded the trailer I guarentee that. I have seen acouple of them around here I was called out to a farm one time that had the same set up. He had a piece of 4x4 block lag bolted to it and it was to keep the spring from sagging and letting the tire hit the fuel tank he was hauling. It was in similar condition Except had bailing wire instead of the twine. I looked at the 500 gallon diesel tank and then the trailer and told him I couldnt be a part of that and left. Hahaha some people just don't under stand what they do endangers other people to lol.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.

Then I started thinking about whether I would want my wife driving on the same road as this thing was getting towed and started talking to him about the scrap yard. I really aam glad he agreed with me.
