This is my wood burning stove.  It was a originally a thick steel hot water heater, i pulled it out of a barn that my friend owns. its very heavy duty and holds its heat very well, it was quite the process cutting it up in too. I first stated measuring and drew my mark and started cutting. The tools i used are a sawzall, angle grinders (big and small), torch, an old buzz box  and 7018 as my electrode. enjoy Attached Images
Reply:Good idea for an old water heater. It looks as if the door pivots up to open?Does it leak smoke inside? I love to see old stuff like this recycled to somethingusefull.
Reply:The door opens like a normal door nothing fancy,  And it leaks just a little bit it must have wear i stoped and started with the welding but i will fix that, and also i like to re-purpose things.
Reply:I took a hotwater heater from the dump last year to make a stove like this.  Haven't done it yet.  Took one apart, and cut it in half, and was gonna make a snow plow for a 4wheeler, but didn't.  The newer ones are still thick enough, but I would like to see how thick the older ones are.  Can't find them as most people take them to the recycle places for the 5.00 to 10.00 in steel they have.
Reply:I could measure it for you if you would like . but i think the thickness is around like 1/4 . But i came across this in a friends barn it was lots of work just to get it out of there .And weighs a ton
