Reply:Thanks guys, I have been wanting a flatbed for a while now. So this will work great until I build my ultimate welding rig flatbed. I do like the big box I will have it goes to the bottom of the truck frame in spots AKA lots of storage.

Reply:Looks awesome!! the only thing I dont like is the lack of a way to tie things down, and lack of stake pockets.. We all use our trucks in different ways, so I guess maybe this isnt an issue for you, but I typically use ratchet straps to secure things onto the bed, because of that, on a standard style flatbed, I like to use channel on the outside rails so I can hook anywhere along the length... I also have several different sets of sideboards used for different purposes on my current bed, and they all fit into the stake pockets.... That said, damn cool bed. well done for sure!!!
Reply:I am adding 2x6x11gauge folding steel sides that are removable and all the tie down mounts will be on those rails. They will also be used as ramps for my dirt bikes and generator. This bed is far from done lots to come. Thanks for all the comments

Reply:Please tell me there's nothing heavier than 11ga tubing, and 11ga diamond plate on your build.Or, is it somewhere North of 1500lbs, and climbing??Not to worry, I see it all the time. The homebuilt beds usually weigh as much as the truck"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:that headache rack keeps getting cooler and cooler

Reply:You are correct, its all 11gauge rectangular tubing and 11gauge tread plate and .120 round tube. Next time I would go lighter. I have never built a flatbed before and most I have seen around hear use all 3" Chanel for everything. Thanks for the input!
Reply:Wow, lookin awesome!! You gonna paint it black, or color match the truck??
Reply:It will be powder coated Satin Black with a stainless steel lid for the tool box. Thanks
Reply:Great looking bed! Looks like you put a lot of work in it! Personally, I wouldn't do the spider web thing. Normally I don't like those, but that actually looks good! I do okay at that sort of metal work, but only on little stuff. Better work than I could do! But if it's what you like, then keep it up! You don't need my approval. Great work and looks good! I LOVE the toolbox your building though! Keep it up!Last edited by 1955_Chevy_6400; 02-03-2012 at 01:45 PM.Reason: typo
Reply:Is this on a 1 ton or 3/4 ton truck?Looking pretty good so far. Are you going to use this as the basis for a welding bed in the future? To complete the look of the spider web, cut out a spider shape and add to the web somewhere. I have seen several spider web designs on other projects, but they always leave out the spider.
Reply:Nice work, am loving it!p.s.My bosses dodge dually's deck is built heavy too, not heavy, just built proper. Here are some more pics. I haven't been able to work on this much do to other work. Attached Images

Reply:Nope its a long bed, it just look short because of the integrated tool box.
Reply:Just my 2 cents - but I'd suggest steps (cut out) or a ladder (fold down) rather than constantly jumping up and down. It could hinge at the top and have a locking pin to keep it there, then just fold it down and get to work. Should be long enough to almost reach the ground - or at least stop one step below the "bumper".Makes it a LOT easier on you - young or old.Since you are working on it - next time you have to "get up" there think about the stretch to do so to see the value.Again just 2 cents worth.
