I am ready to upgrade from my chinese tig welder. I can buy a new lincoln precision tig225 for around 2200. Or a miller dynasty dx with about 40hrs on it but three years old for 2500. one is old school the other inverter based. I do mostly motorcycle/car/old house welding for myself. I do some transmission crack welding that you guys have helped me with.All input is appreciated.

Reply:i'll probably get bounced on for this but i was faced with the same decision only i was looking at new on both and my local miller only dealer said the only choice was the miller and that lincoln was junk.(go figure he sells only miller) well i talked to the other lws that sells both and explained that this would only be used in my shop and not to be moved out of the shop. he said for the extra expense of the dynasty even with the added features he would recommend the pt225 for the bullet proof transformer since i had no intentions of more then basic tig welding steel and aluminum. my mainstay is stick and mig welding steel. for thicker aluminum i use the 30a on my mm252. my sum total of tig on steel prior to the pt225 was done with my buddies miller maxtor 200. Reply:It depends on whether you want to move it around a lot or not. The miller is very light and portable.

Reply:I have't moved my chinese inverter for 3 years, however the lincoln will require new plugs and wiring since I only ran 40 amp service. Only 40 ft of wire but new plugs and time to consider.
Reply:I have the lincoln and it is great no problems or issues..the extra amps for aluminium is good too.....buy a new licoln and have a warranty just in case..
Reply:I am not a professional welder. I did buy a PT 225 a little over two years ago. For me, it was easy to learn with as it lacked all the bells, whistles, and knobs that seem to be able to get one into trouble when they do not fully understand all of the adjustments and end up adjusting themselves into oblivion. I have had zero problems and would buy it, again. I would like to come up with a design to mount the tig cooler. There is no provision for that as an accessory. They do have such for a small tig that they sell as a package, but not the cooler. Good luck on whatever you end up getting.
Reply:A better comparison would be the PC 225 vs the miller syncrowave 200 or 250. Thats Millers transformer equivilant to the transformer PT 225.
