Hi guys, thought I would jump right in with my first post and get to the point..LOL. Just purchased the welder in the title and it came with a MIGet AH20-P spoolgun just wondering a couple things..Im not a welder by trade but would like to have a spoolgun on hand for the odd aluminum project. I cant get the wire to stop burning back and the feed speed is turned to max. I have tried every setting with the tempature and Im thinking the feed motor is toast I dont have any spoolgun expierence so Im not sure weather its me or the gun. The feed motor is a 36:1 which I believe is the fastest. Also the motor does not seem very strong I can grab the wire when spooling out and stop it if I grip tightly, so question is do I order a few new parts or is this not a great gun to waste money on..sorry for the long post.Thx
Reply:You could try increasing the tension on the drive roll in the spool gun. If you do not have enough tension, the motor will just turn and the wire will not feed right.
Reply:I just researched this gun for our shop because we needed some parts. ESAB no longer supports this gun. I believe that you have to have the speed control on the main machine turned up to full speed in order to control the speed on the gun. Also check the tension as described by "wnywelder"
Reply:I have the same gun, Actually 2 of them. They are actually made by a company called ProFax. they make guns for esab, airco, miller,l tec, and many others. its supposed to be a really good gun. the problem I have with mine are the motor will not run with the triggers, about to call profax now. If the machine you are using does not have a remote contactor then the gun will always be hot so wire will burn as soon as you touch the work even without trigger pressed..the design of this gun started in WWII era and has not changed since for the most part.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:Here is a link to profax website http://profaxlenco.com/index.php?q=home_profax call their tech support, they were helpful with getting mine going and all parts are still available and an LWS should be able to order the parts for you. check out their catalog you will see that stuff is pretty much the same.... I just got both my Profax guns working properly. very nice setups. If urmotor is running when u press the trigger then the motor is not shot. I have 2 and they definitely have different speed motors in them... one can do a snail pace and the other is like a rocket... Are you running DC reverse. according to ProFax, ALL wire must be used on DC Reverse!I can stop the motors in mine too if I grip the spool or wire tightly. Can you vary the wire speed with the control on the gun..... also is the gun connected directly to the machine or does it go through a controllerTiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.
