Hey so I have been welding for almost 2 years now and I'm looking at getting a 240v mig but the max breaker I can have is a 30amp is this big enough?
Reply:That will depend on the specific machine you wish to acquire. Check the specs on any machines you consider, see what is required for minimum service to power the machine. If it requires more than 30A then consider the next smaller machine. - MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

( Lincoln's manual states 40amp but you can use yer 30amp circuit just fine)and as Mondo stated- whichever brand you go with check the specs before purchasingEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:I'm looking at a locoln wire matic 250
Reply:You'll need a 60amp Breaker for the Wire-matic 250 to run wide open and uses quite a bit of power at rated welding amps:The Lincoln is rated 145 amp @ 230v and will use 33 amps 100% Duty Cycle.http://www.lincolnelectric.com/asset...oln3/im453.pdfEven though the Lincoln might be a good deal on $, it seems like it uses too much power for your situation= Not a good.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Ok thanks guys I think I'll get the wirematic 250 and if its to much for the breaker ill sell it again cuz its only $600
Reply:Or would a miller 175 be better
Reply:I would revisit the 30 amps max breaker part.Electric clothes dryers tend to be 30 Amps. Plugs are common enough. Kinda cool being able to plug into a dryer outlet...HoweverElectric ranges are typically more like 50 Amps. So most modern breaker boxes can handle 50 Amps. The most common outlet in the USA for 230V- 1ph welders is the NEMA 6-50Rhttp://www.fruitridgetools.com/store...FRKg4AodIHEAHQIf you don't mind putting in conduit, you can essentially run a wire from the fuse box to where ever you need it. Run the conduit on the outside of the house. If you are unsure, talk with a licensed electrician. Having unreliable power takes away from the fun. Do right once, and the bucks you spend now will keep you happy for years to come. My outlets are pushing 20 years old... I don't have the foggiest idea what they cost and they work perfectly still.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX |
