I am in need of a spot welder and so far I think I have it narrowed down to two welders.Miller lmsw-52thttp://www.millerwelds.com/products/...__air-cooled_/Snap-on YA22300A Air cooled http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalogI mainly need this for sheet metal, no more than to join 2 pieces of 16ga steelAnyone have any experience with either of these?Pros, cons, input, smart arsed comments etcThanks Joshwww.STREETWERKZ.com
Reply:I'd get the Miller, about a grand online. Miller service is second to none, while the tool truck driver isn't going to be a welding tech.Snapon doesn't make their own welding machines and are IMO insanely overpriced in order to bone customers who are used to paying high hand tool prices.
Reply:Get down and think about it. all a resistance welder is, is basically a transformer out of heavy gauge copper with a handle made to sych. when pressed.I use one in the body shop. Import spot welders you can get for about $200 in the same configuration in 115v or 220.I would take the money you saved and by some additional copper extensions, and fender thongs and the Miller timer(absolutely) for thinner metals and aluminum, and make a stand yourself. Also their are machines similar to this;http://cgi.ebay.ca/Spotmatic-M1-Spot...item43a786354d on sale routinely where the adjustment for the copper electrodes at the weld and not at the handle. |
