i picked up a syncrowave 350  miller   for 500.00 bucks  ..is that a good price or did i get taken...          whats it worth and are they a good machine?  thanks much Attached Images
Reply:also  the  miller matic 150    i got for  300.00 bucks ..is that resonable  .and  are they reliable  good welders?   not real formiliar  with used stuff ... thanks
Reply:Yea you definitely got a great deal no sarcasm at all.
Reply:SCORE!!!!! good price on both if they work.  The syncro looks like it has a water cooler too.  800 for both is a stealBobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?

Reply:well thats definitly good news , yes it did come with the bernard cooler... (are these good coolers? )  and a wp17  torch . and foot pedal  .. maybe the guy didnt know what they were worth ..     i guess good for me though
Reply:and lots of cleaning of course ...   i read on here that everyones washing the inside of welders with water and cleaner  ..  is that seriously  okay?
Reply:i own a 350 lx;  doesn't yours say 351.  let me put on my glasses to make sure.  yep, it does.
Reply:Wow!  I need to start looking for deals in the same place you go!  The "usual" price I see Syncrowave 350/351's going for is in the $1500 range and that's without the cooler.  The old transformer machines are virtually bullet-proof.  As  to the washing the insides with water....that still scares me.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma

Reply:yes its a 351  .. my bad . ..  picked the millermatic  150    at the jefferson swap meet in wisconsin . and the tig from a local welding shop - breuer metals  .... that was upgrading to diversions
Reply:yes we have a 351  at work just like yours , thats what messed me up..  wish i would have  found one like yours for the same price
Reply:i wouldn't worry to much about it.  if that welds you got a good buy.  be happy with what you have there.  coolers can run six hundred.  good luck.  if we're going to wish like that, may as well be wishing for something newer and more expensive than what i've got.  you can always use it to trade up, you've got a good start.
Reply:I haven't ever washed mine out with water,  but take the sheet metal panels off and blow it all out with compressed  air won't hurt it at all.  also check its wired for the right power input source before firing it up.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:If you are a welding shop,   going to inverter welders across the board can cut your electricity bill in more than half so that may be a good justification to do so.  figure their electric bill is probably a few thousand a month... Just a wild guess.  Plus if you depreciated all  your current equipment, buying new gives you a write off on taxes.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:You might want to keep your eyes out for a WP18 or WP20 torch. That 17 torch is air cooled, so it's not going to do you much good with a cooler.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:+1 on compresed air. I'd would not use water to clean my welder. That price is so low I'd be worried that I might wake up. The replacement cost on cooler alone is about $800.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine toolsIn all honesty you can wash computer motherboards with soap and water once you take them out of the case and let them air dry for two days.  You can submerge an entire pc minus the mouse keyboard and monitor in mineral oil and it will run without a problem. The biggest thing with electronics is you have to make sure that all of the water is out of the components before powering up and one way to do that easily is to set them outside in the sun or you can go to the store and get some damp rid and put it in a large trash bag with the wet item and the damp rid will pull all of the moisture out as its a desiccate though if you can get your hands on some aerogel it is a much much better desiccate though its very pricey.Last edited by Big65mopar; 05-25-2011 at 10:21 PM.
Reply:You meant mineral "spirits" and not mineral oil , right?Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:Mineral OIL. Mineral spirits are a solvent. All sorts of PC cooling experiments have been done with mineral oil.I've cleaned a couple of motherboards with water followed by alcohol and a compressed air blowout. Worked fine.
Reply:Water, yes but... for anything that has steel or iron exposed, water will create rust, and rust isn't your friend.  It wouldn't surprise me that the manufacturer would save pennies by not painting exposed metal unless he had to, after all, the inside of a welder isn't intended for water.  There may be a condition for washing out a welder with water but that would be a rare exception rather than a rule.  (I'm trying to think of an example.. okay, say somebody spilled 2 liters of coke down the top of your welder, and everything is sticky, and you want to wash it up.. I suspect distilled water wash down with immediate steps to dry everything off would be a good idea..)  Absolutely do NOT power up until everything is absolutely dry.  --zip
Reply:OK im jealous.   Seriously if that thing works ..   then its a screamin deal.    congrats!! weld it like you own it

Every Miller, Lincoln, etc Service Center in the country & abroad does it as daily practiceHere's a thread... http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...lding+machinesJust sayin' Oh, dude got a steal on that 351. It even has the option panel. I would have a woody for a month if I got a deal like that...........
Reply:I'll clarify. I've "dried" (with contact cleaner, etc) a couple pagers and the odd cell phone that have been washed (or gone swimming, dropped in a toilet, etc). Properly cared for and properly done, electronic items can be wet and dried again and work properly. I'm also a former avionics technician, so I've done some work with electronics over the years (though I tried not to clean most of my items with a hose or pressure washer  ). It just seems like an awful big risk to have someone hose out an electrical machine that's not familiar with ways to dry it (and I would still worry about residual water in the transformer windings, etc). So, I'm quite sure it can be done, but I'd still much prefer compressed air and electrical component cleaner myself. Maybe that's just more typical in my world (which doesn't usually involve industrial electronic machines and is more computer based).Apparently I stand corrected on techniques to clean welding equipment. Interesting...Your results may vary, etc, etc, etc.KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175
Reply:water for cleaning ................ intresting  ,  50%  of people say yea .....50%  say no   ull kill it . .
Reply:You actually have a very good point & to clarify on my end, I wasn't trying to be a jerk. If someone isn't familiar with cleaning a machine out with pressurized water, SKIP IT!! Some techs don't like cleaning inverters using this method, but I've done dozens & dozens of them & other machines with no issues. You just have to insure it's thoroughly dry before powering it back up.In many cases, a machine brought in for service will need to be pressure washed if it's been in a factory or other heavy industrial setting where dust & other contaminants get sucked in & the machines are in say, a robotic welding cell where they cannot be regularly cleaned out. I have seen many Maxtron machines used in robotic applications just packed full of dirt & even oil laden dust that collected in the fins of the heat sinks, causing the power modules to overheat & subsequently fail. They almost have to be pressure washed out before you can properly start diagnosing the issues. As I have stated many times in the past.... If you don't have complete confidence in your ability & enough general knowledge to perform any service procedure or repair, take it to a certified Service Center & let them do it!!Nice to be back
