By the way, I've been having trouble with a profax AEC 200, rheostat mainly one of my guys installed a new one awhile back & has complained about it since. Sometimes the rheo works no matter where you set it other times it makes no difference, runs at one speed. how can I check it I seem to remember its checking the continuity, but not sure how to go about it. Is it resistance or voltage? I'd appreciate it if someone can steer me in the right direction Thanks.
Reply:One choice is to remove the rheostat from the circuit and check its resistance by itself.   The external circuitry will screw up the reading otherwise. The other choice is to check the voltage with everything powered up, it should vary smoothly as the rheostat is adjusted.  Measure from the center tap to one end of the rheostat.Other have more experience, but that is how I understand it.Richard Originally Posted by midgetwelderBy the way, I've been having trouble with a profax AEC 200, rheostat mainly one of my guys installed a new one awhile back & has complained about it since.
