I have noticed lately that most of the wires and gouging carbons are labeled with 'Not for export in United States'. It's probably worth pointing out these are non US brands but it's got me curious. Is there some kind of ban on imported products like this or do they contain banned ingredients?
Reply:My first thought is that the company making the consumables has another "brand" or agreement with distribution in the USA.  I would think that any product made in China or India wouldn't care whether a substance was banned in the US or not.  The burden of determining which substance is banned or not would fall on the importer. If the China/India Factory made the same product and had an agreement to slap another label on it for sale in the USA, that would be another story.
Reply:Well. It shouldn't be surprising. In the land of Duh Fee they won't even allow you to buy a first rate cigar or rum. FreeDumbLike my old diesel Land Cruiser "not for export to The Empire". The oil soaked owners wouldn't hear of importing 30 mpg technology in 1973.It was bad enough the " Jap Crap" lasted 250K with ease. Buy merkin ! Pinto, Vega, AMC Pacer, Duster ! Reply:Originally Posted by D1ckoSorry I forgot to mention I'm in Australia. I suppose it makes sense that there could be licensing or distribution contracts in place. From what I can recall, all the parts were BOC branded or one of their subsidiaries.
Reply:Because of the (too) many conusmer protection law we have in the USA, not only the contents of a product, but the labeling must meet certain legal standards. I've been involved with small farm tractors of for years. Kubuota has to have special US market versions (even down to the transmission castings) so they can be sold in the U.S.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A
Reply:I've noticed that lately. It's almost like California isn't part of America. Flicking thorough some of the paperwork with various bits and pieces I've picked up over the last 12 months and it will say something like meets EU, AS/NZ, USA and California standards.
