so is here is what im thinking i need a TIG cooler i got a 300 amp flex head water cooled tig rig but no way to cool it i found this pump at HF http://www.harborfreight.com/34-hors...ump-69297.html But its only rated at 43 PSI i thought a tig rig needed 50 PSI can i boost this up with a pressure reg ? or will this be fine ?i will run the return through a heater core with a fan back to a 5 gal bucket and my pick up for the pump will be in the bottom of the bucket and ill have a filter between the line running to the torch will this work ?
Reply:What you need to do is get a re-built pro con pump off of ebay. These are also used in soda vending machines. I forget what pressure/gph pumps are optimal, maybe someone can chime in about it. They can be had for pretty cheap. You will then need a separate motor to run it. These are the pumps used in a lot of commercial coolers. The pump in the link may work, but with some good scrounging you can make a very nice, high quality cooler for not a lot of money.
Reply:You are much better off buying this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Procon-Pump-...item3a8660d2adThe harbor freight pump is a low pressure/high volume pump. What you need is a high pressure/low volume pump like the procon. Those are what I have and the just plain work correctly.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:sweet ill go with that pump i have to make this mobile for school but i got most of the crap already so i figure why not get another TIG rig ready to rock n roll

Reply:Capable of 120psi... You need to regulate the pressure down. Or adjust the electrical input so it only make 50psi or so.The pump needs to be capable of 2 things. At least 40 or 50psi and needs to be able to flow about 1liter per minute AT that pressure. As any pump make more pressure the flow goes down, so a pump rated for 50psi will not flow nearly as much at 50psi as it will at zero psi (where the specified max flow rating is).I used a 12volt shurflo agricultural pump and it has been working excellently for over 2 years. It make up to 200psi and flows plenty (about 2gal/min at open flow I think).Similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHURflo-12V-...item3a85fd874fHere's the build thread for my DIY cooler http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...Cooler-for-TIGLast edited by MikeGyver; 11-03-2013 at 01:12 AM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:the HF pump puts out 350 gal a hour i converted to liters per min and got 22.082 l/min and thats at 43 psi is this to much i would like to just buy a cheap pump that has a 115 volt motor with a plug on it already and use a heater core or tranny cooler with a fan if needed
Reply:The HF pump will likely be fine. Look up what the manufacturer of your torch recommends. I have a CK230 with 25' super flex lines which I believe is a 300 amp torch. The manufacturer calls for 1 liter per minute of coolant flow. I used it on municipal water before getting my cooler and I only have around 25psi where I live. It flowed 1 liter per minute at 25, so 43 is likely more than you'll need. Also, if you're going with a 5 gallon reservoir and you're a hobby guy, you likely won't need a heat exchanger in your system.Last edited by Drf255; 11-03-2013 at 04:28 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Not to offend anyone, but I want to point out that just about every professional system uses a procon pump for it's efficiency and durability. Before that it was oberdorfer gear pumps.Put on a 115volt lead and the hose couplers, adjust pressure for correct flow, and you are done. Mine give me at least 20,000 hours of service before a $65 rebiuld may be necessary.Last edited by shovelon; 11-03-2013 at 08:17 AM.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:Check at used restaurant equipment dealers in your area. In my area you can get a carbonator $50-$75. Has a pump, motor and a tank all you need is a couple of fittings and its good go. I put a wanted ad on my local CL and I ended up getting a real nice McCanns "Big Mac" for $15.
Reply:If you want a loud pump get an oberdorfer. LOL. I might someday change to a Pro-con pump, hopefully they are quiet compared to an oberforfer (straight cut gear pump).www.tjsperformance.comDynasty 300 DXHTP 240HTP Microcut 380Hyperthem 85JD2 Hyd Bender and HF Hyd Ring Roller all in one =(Frankenbender)Bpt.
