Hey all,I was poking around online and I ran into this "TIG 101" pdf provided by Stanford for their project lab. This looks to be a decent "breakdown" for guys who are just getting into TIG welding. As always, there is more than one way to do it, but this should get you startedhttp://www.stanford.edu/group/prl/do...df/TIGweld.pdf
Reply:Haven't read though it all yet, but on first glance, looks like a good reference!

Reply:There's less useful information in there than there is in the Miller manuals you can download from millerwelds.com. I'm not sure what the point is, other than to tell them where to find the tungstens, in the lab, and to yell "Welding!" before stricking an arc.__David Hillman

Reply:Not to mention you would most likely go deaf by the end of the day yelling with your lid down.

Reply:Evidently the Standford welding department is very quiet, like to see them try that at the shipyard.
Reply:do folks actually yell "welding"? seems to me if someone yelled "welding" it would make people want to look out of first reflex. like if someone yelled pizza, dinner, beer call, etc people would automatically start running for it. i yell "watch your eyes" and while they are trying to cross their eyes or trying to decide the best way to pop one eye out and look at it with the other one and are totally confused with trying to figure out how the hell can i watch my eyes i get the welding done.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:Man that whole "WELDING!" thing really caught people's attention. I thought it was a good primer because it goes through the basics without dropping huge amounts of information on the reader. Obviously there are better references. You wouldn't want to go do code work after reading the Stanford TIG primer.Their project realization lab is more about making things for student projects. Not about training for a career in welding.
