shotgun test fire tube

had a little project this weekend. we built a shot trap for a company thats starting to manufacture shotguns in the the area. basicly all it it is a 14" X3/8" steel pipe with two baffles inside to deflect the shot and slugs, that dumps into a 55 gallon drum. The slugs just come apart and the shot comes out with enough velocity to puncture paper but not a plastic milk jug and everything goes in  the right direction no back spray at all even with that big port . its going to be installed thru a building wall thats why the height on the legs, the firing port is not quite finished its going to have another plate with a rubber covered firing port, but we did test fire into it anyway, the picture is the first slug shot everyone was a little nervous. Reply:Interesting project. I too am interested in what you used for baffles. Must be fairly heavy stuff, I've got some mean slugs over 600 grains that can do some serious damage. I'd hate to shoot em at something point blank like this lol.
Reply:Haha that HF welding helmets going to do a lot if something comes flying back out of there  Cool project though!
Reply:we used 3/8 ths plate on about an 22 degree angle to kick it up into the 30 degree angle on the pipe down tube, that slowed  it down and broke up the shot and slugs enough that there isnt much energy left. We fired about 25 rounds through it with no back splash I know what you mean about those heavy slugs these were handloads that were way overpowered and hurt like hell to shoot them, as for the harbor freight helmet that was for the illusion of safety the quarter bottle of liquid courage had more to do with getting the first rounds threw it than anything.Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
