I'm a senior in high school and im planning on going to welding school once i get out of football and the next semester starts. I want to work on a pipeline for a couple years while im still young and then come back home and weld in the plants. Is that something you can do? I know on a pipeline its vertical downhill, but i know its probably all sorts of things in a plant. And my hand isn't naturally steady. Is that going to be a problem or will steadyness come with experience? At this point you can basically say i have no true welding experience besides welding in ag class with a teacher that didnt know a mig from tig.
Reply:Welcome from an old man. You sound like you have the basics ( education) ahead of you. Education is first. Then as you work, listen to some of us old f...s. Watch and listen. Those qualities will bring you to the front and will help your welding abilities where you become a good welder. Stay honest, steadfastness with your home and work, love what you do, and be kind, forgiving, and every now and then .... Go fishin'. Good luck.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:I share almost the same story as you a senior in high school becoming a welder congrats another one among us. (: If I were you I would focus on pipe 6g with stick and tig practice these and do an AWS welding test that has some x-ray endorsement in the 6g position this will help you alot. I think it would also be of a great value to learn how to fit pipe to and be a combo pipe welder/fitter and with this good luck!Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools
Reply:Sign up for classes at a local tech school or in a community college. I'm also a senior in high school, seems to be quite a few guys that are considering trades as an option instead of going to uni. Anyways I signed up for some classes my junior year and I'm currently taking a lab class (nothing but welding) and its awesome. I'm currently at vertical my welds are getting better but not good enough, for me atleast. I do recommend you guys sign up quick and sign up for as many classes as you can fit on your schedule. Learned this through experience, don't wait to sign up and put things off for "tomorrow" because classes fly... You practically have to fight for a spot lots of applicants. Good luck
