Little help here...trying to figure out what the rough prices for gas refills are from various places. I know the prices will vary a bit locally but overall I'd imagine supplies are pretty close. Not sure what the best deal is either.Locally I have praxair, air liquide, and tsc all relatively close to my place. I'd like to get around the praxair Q sized tank I think at most? One option I'm kind of liking the idea of is buying a tank from TSC ($275ish) and then being able to do cylinder exchanges ($80ish). Not so fond of those prices but the fact I could do exchanges on weekends/evenings is a benefit as both praxair and air liquide close at 5pm and aren't open weekends. They do also have 10% off deals all the time.Praxair won't sell any bigger than 55cf ($170ish) which seems a bit small but refills are only around $40ish. Leasing is something like $70/year? I went in today to see what the options are but wasn't able to get any very clear numbers in writing (I was tire kicking more than seriously looking to buy, so understandable).Air liquide I will be stopping by tomorrow to see what they have.So I guess long and short, Canadians, what's the best choice/deal out there for home use?
Reply:I'm a home user - of argon.  A few weeks back I bought a Q-size (80 cf) of argon at TSC - 15% off.  I live in Ottawa and I had looked around.  Previously you could not buy the Q-size tank in argon (only rent) and I didn't like the smaller LD (55 cf) size.  So, if you're talking argon, I'd recommend the TSC route - similar price and as you say open at night, Saturday & Sunday.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:Looking for C25 mix...but I guess that's the same sort of deal.
Reply:Praxair in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia quoted me $77 a year for lease, and $230 for a tank buy.  Not sure on what the gas actually costs, but I'll check on it next week.  Have to pop by to pick up my Motorguard filter. Reply:I live on Vancouver Island  and the shipping is reflected in all the prices. I have had a lease contract with Praxair for more years than I can remember. My lease cost for a "t" oxygen is about $60 a year and the large c-25 is the same. The last oxygen I exchanged {about a week ago} cost me in the neighbor hood of $50. The last c-25 I exchange was  if I remember about $120 both these prices include taxes and hazmat charges. I use propane for cutting etc but If I remember right the last large acty I exchanged was around $300. which is why I now use propane. Prices just keep going up. The prices at all the stores here  are about the same.
Reply:There's another advantage of TSC (as Ihdmech mentioned) - no hazmat charges!Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:I'm on the island too. For some reason in my home town, the gas guys here won't touch an owned 120CF, but I can go to a large city near here and it's no problem. Strange, because they all go to the lower mainland to get filled anyway. What a pain. And they won't fill a big one..I'd sure like a 300CF or the like...hate the hassle. Simple, they just want you to lease/exchange, and for $60 per year I'd do it, but it's more than that here.Oh well, to live on the island we have to put up with these small hassles...not a bad tradeoff on a day like today!Anyway, for the 120 it's about $60 including shipping etc. 1-2 weeks turnaround (I have a small 40 for filling in).Chay
Reply:Stopped at air liquide today...80cf was around $300 and fills were around $40, so a little pricey on the tank but a little less on fills. That said, I wasn't too impressed with the people there compared to praxair. The guy at praxair who helped me spent a good 20 minutes chatting and going over everything and actually offered up alternatives to save me some money and such. Just seemed like someone who cared, which makes me rather give them the business.I'm starting to see that in the end it's all going to come out a wash in terms of price so I should go where the best service and convenience is over trying to shop for the cheapest bottle/fill.That said, keep the suggestions/intelligence coming, it's helpful to see what everyone is doing.
