Hey guys in school we're doing blueprint reading we are starting basic and working out so can anyone post some pictures of simple blueprints for me so I can get an idea of whats used out in the real world. I would like to say thank you to anyone who can help and I've never used blue prints before I came into school I just had an idea in my head or hand drew something using my own little codes.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools
Reply:You may try to find a mechanical drawing class. You will have to draw objects and layout using symbols as the same as engineers and architect. I'll see if I can come up with something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Yes take some classes in mechanical drawing / drafting  ..i took those my freshmen year and took architecture the civil engineering The teacher Mr.Martin was a great teacher and it helped me a lot in all the different jobs i have had in construction and machining also welding and carpentry I wonder if they even teach it with pencils and tee square/angle squares anymore don't get me wrong nothing wrong with auto cad or google sketch up which i use all the timeBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Can someone help me with this. What is an extension line, leader line, and dimension line? Their definitions are a little confusing.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools
Reply:Good basics to be able to identify lines so that you know what they are telling you.   First body lines are the lines that outline the object in the drawing.  Extension lines are lines that extend past the body lines to help indicating distances.  There is a small gap between the body line and the extension line.  The dimension line is the line between two extension lines that has a gap in the middle where the lenght or width of the object is written.  The dimension line in most cases has an arrow at both ends where it meets the extension line.  ( sometimes arrows are not used... instead dots or even a diagonal slash)   Leader lines are a line that points to something like a hole or weld location.  In most cases it has an arrow at one end and at the other end some sort of note or symbol to indicate what is happening at the arrow location.  An example would be a leader line that has a note like "3 inch dia."   or "drill and tap for 1/4 -28 UNC"   Weld notations use a leader line.
Reply:Best way to learn is to find someone who knows what they are looking at. Ask a local contractor or maybe you have a carpenter in the family, I bet if you asked a contractor nicely a lot of them wouldn't mind sitting down with you for an hour to show you a few things (I am a contractor and I know I wouldn't mind). In all reality, its not too difficult to read blueprints once you wrap your head around the basics, its just lines on paper, the difficult part is reproducing those lines in 3D.

Reply:Seems the jobs I get, the biggest problem is like Donald Branscon just said, Architects draw them incorrectly.    The problem isn't reading them, it's trying to decide what to do.   I do very little shop work, and mostly small retrofit modifications in the field type things.   So that probally why i see more plans that don't make sense on whats going on.   Usually the welding inspector is a X welder, and make a sensible judgement call.   He'll usually either (1.) overlook the discrepency and sign it off. (2)if it's a pretty formal job, he'll make the engineer rewrite it and/or require a written welding procedure.    I ended up in court in this type of mess before.   All the lies started coming out.   I claimed, I didn't bid this job, the general was running the job and hired me on an hourly rate to do what he wanted done.    The judge sided with me.  Since then, I put my license inactive, and really do my best to release myself of liability of these type of things.

Reply:I never got into this too much. The company I worked for, 99 times out of 100 we had a project engineer on site. Not all the time were they PEs, but  there were plenty PEs in the main office to fight it out with the design outfit.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:what text book are you using at school? When I went through we used Blueprint reading for welders. it was pretty good. It sounds like you just started. keep it up and you will get it. Really its not all that complicated. just looking at a large detailed print can be overwhelming or intimidating. Give it some time and it will clickleader: A leader line is used for placing a note or weld symbol etc. in a specific area. its normally an angled line with an arrow on the end and the note on the other.extension line: This like comes off the edge of the part, running parallel with the edge it is assigned to. it will have a very small gap between the part, it is used for dimensioningdimension line: this line spans between two points showing their dimension, normally arrows on the end with the dimension in the middle of the line. You will commonly see these spanning between extension lines.- Christian M.C3 Welding & Fabrication - CNC Plasma Cutting-Mobile Welding-Custom welding and fabwww.c3welding.com
