Welding tanks?

I tryed to do a search but nothing came up so here it goes. Blank Screen...On oxy acetylene tank capacities. What would the pressure of a full tank be, and what would be the same pressure at half empty be? It may sound like a dumb question but this is my first O/A welding setup and was wondering how much is left in these tanks that was given to me?Also what is the current going rate on a fill up?..... Thanks for any information
Reply:As far as cost, that will greatly depend on the size of your cylinders...Oxygen is a high pressure gas. Usually the cylinders are rated at 2015 psi to 2400psi. You can find the number on the cylinder neck. Pressure is directly related to volume, so if a cyl is "full" at say 2400, the it's 1/2 full at 1200 psi. Keep in mind temperature will affect the pressure/volume as well. A cyl that is "full" at 98 deg in the summer will show "low" in 20 deg in January. Same amount of gas, but the pressure has decreased because the temp has dropped. Thats also why many times a "full" cyl rated at 2400 may only show 2200 or so. They leave a bit of room for expansion if the cyl gets left out in the hot sun.Acet is different. It's dissolved in acetone in a pourous lining and only some of the contents at the top are a gas. Thats the reason for the limits on the withdrawl rate for acet. They are low pressure cylinders. I can't remember off the top of my head what a "full" cyl usually reads, but it's very low in relation to the oxygen cyl..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I looked up the tank sizes and think they are code Q cylinders, 75 and 84 capacity. The O2 shows around 1100 lbs but the Acetylene is around 55 lbs but it feels heavy...
Reply:O2 sounds about 1/2 full.  Can't say about the acet. Acet will always feel heavy. Thats because of the pourous material and acetone thats in the cylinder even when empty.Usually you use O2 and acet roughly evenly if you are heating or welding. If you are cutting, you probably use about 3-4 times more O2 than Acet.Last time I got my same O2 filled it was about $25 or so. I get my large 282cf cyl filled for just a few dollars more, so I seldom get the small one filled. Acet I only use for cutting or soldering. I've got 3 or 4 cylinders, so it's been awhile since I needed to get any swapped out and can't remember what I paid back then off the top of my head, Prices can vary widely at times, so do a bit of research before you pick a supplier.Last edited by DSW; 07-21-2011 at 09:24 PM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
