Just wondering..I was bored, with the tig machine, tried welding 2 pennies together in a lap joint...Very low amps.A small puddle formed on the bottom one and the top one just burned away
Reply:What kind of heat sink is the bottom one laying on? One is getting hotter than the other. Guess which one.
Reply:Yeah thats kinda what I figured..Its a 1/2" thick steel  table and I had them just laying on it
Reply:Most of the pennies out there are copper coated zinc. Zinc has a pretty low melting point. Scrape one with a knife hold it to a flap wheel/grinder, it'll be silvery under the copper."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:Last year for a copper penny was 82, but that was also the first year the zinc one was introduced. Hehe I used to remember using a pair of scissors to cut them in half and mess with people having them try cutting the same year penny but the copper one....Synchowave 180SD  Bernard 3500SS water coolerMillermatic 200Parker Plasma Tec 40dvOperating Engineers Local 12

Reply:You can weld the new pennies together using 4043 aluminum as filler.. it bonds well with the zinc if you don't overheat it.. I just tried it a few mins ago. Tig, DC- low low amps..
