Flagged and unflagged tig rod?

New to tig, did a little bit of it before but the other day i was looking into buying some rod for use on mild steel and they have an option of buying it flagged or unflagged. Iv asked everyone I know and nobody seems to know for sure the difference. Does anyone on here have any idea wat that means?
Reply:Flagged means it has a tag on it or it is stamped, identifying what type of filler metal it is.

Reply:Flagged usually means there is a little piece of paper wrapped around the wire and it looks a bit like a flag on a pole.  Some places won't let that stuff on property because it doesn't take much handling and the paper comes off.  They will often call for the stamped kind that can't get lostExperience is something you get right after you need it

Reply:The flagged or stamped tig rod also costs more to buy. The unflagged or unstamped tig rod is cheaper to buy.I usually only keep 70s2 on hand in my shop. Thus I buy the non flagged rod. If I was going to keep 70s6 on hand as well, then I would buy at least one grade that was flagged to easily ID each grade of mild steel tig filler rod.Same goes for stainless tig rod in my shop. I generally only have 316L on hand. Reply:Yeah, was looking at prices and here the unflagged are about $10/kg and the flagged are $17/kg lol. Unflagged it is! Thanks guys.
Reply:I have never had or seen unmarked tig filler, am I paying for something I don't need?? All my 70s2 is stamped, 308L is printed, 316L stamped, 4043 has small numbers etched into it and so on.. Reply:My 0.035 er70s2 is unmarked. I can't remember if the 0.045 is or not. The larger mild steel wire is stamped. My ti wire is flagged. My weldmold rod has a paint spot on the end. I guess it all depends, squirmy-pal.
