I need to know what size and wall  thickness square tubing to get to slide a 2'' receiver in? I'm thinking 2.5 x 3/16 wall.
Reply:Just go buy a piece of designated 'receiver tube'. That will work out the best all around for you. A bit spendy but problem free. To answer your question, most receiver tubing is around .230 to .240 wall material, no flash or flash removed on the interior, and more effort into making the corners more square and more defined than some of the off the rack 2.5 inch box tubing. All the above is assuming to really want to make a vehicle receiver and not a bench top receiver."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Hi, depending on how much you need I bought some at harbor freight . I got it on sale , it's a little more now. Using a 25% off coupon will help.http://www.harborfreight.com/18-long...ube-69815.htmlI cut it up into 6'' pieces and added the holes for pin.
Reply:I need 2 pieces a little over 4' to run the length of my welding table. I plan to make an extension for the table that slides in and out. I plan on using set screws to hold it or what ever I put in the tube in place.
Reply:If that's the case, you may be able to work with standard tubing a bit larger ID and then just use a small piece of receiver tube on the ends. That will set up the end near the table, and the end of your extension inside the tube can get permanently shimmed to the right dimension. You wouldn't need a huge shim, 4 good size tacks would do, ground to get the size correct and avoid any flash..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:2and a half inch 3 sixteenths wall would be fine for what you need. Put the setscrew on theside of the 2.5 inch that has the seam. Seamless receiver tube is a lot more cost than regular square tube.Miller xmt304,  Miller S22 p12, Miier Maxstar SD, Miller 252 w 30A, Miller super32p12, Lincoln Ranger 9, Thermal Arc 181I with spoolgun, Hypertherm 10000 ,Smith torches. Reply:Remember with standard tube like it sounds your using, it will have radiused inside corners.  That is fine if you are inserting 2" sq tubes that have an exterior radius, which it sounds like you are.  Solid 2" square usually won't go in because it has squared corners.
