There's a Millermatic 200 with a Spoolmatic 1 for sale locally on eBay.  The starting bid is $299.  The machine has the spot weld optional panel..  The description states that all parts are working, but it has "some cracked hoses that will need replacement".  The biggest problem is that the machine looks like it's been left outside for 5 years.  It is covered in shop dust and has rust in various spots.  If it is in fully functional condition, would you go for it at this price?   The seller has a good eBay rating, so it's very likely that it is functional.   I've read that this is one of the best machines they've ever made.   I will have to redo the outside of the machine as there's no way I could live with it the way it is.  Thanks.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:"If it is in fully functional condition, would you go for it at this price?"What price? You don't think you're going to get it for the bid starting price do you? There are two tools I use to determine current local market value on used goods: eBay past auctions (what the item finally sold for) using the eBay search engine and a Craig's List search aggregator such as crazedlist.org. This second tool has helped me find some really good deals on welding gear. Surprisingly, many of these deals were found mis-posted and not in the Tools section of CL. I really don't like buying off eBay any longer. Especially for tools/equipment. I like to get my hands on the item and "kick the tires". One thing I've noticed about CL is that the more "rural" you are willing to go, the weaker the market is. That relates to lower prices than the metropolitan area that I'm close to. Your results may vary. With these two sources you can find out what the item(s) usually go for in your area. Now, whether or not those prices are "worth it" is entirely up to you.Happy hunting.Eric

Reply:If you can get it for 299 then I think you got a good deal.I liked my sub-100.00 MM200.
Reply:Yeah, 299 is ok. Even if its ugly.  I lucked out on my old mm200 when I got it used. I love it.Miller Synchro250 bought new 1997Millermatic200Miller Bluestar 2E . AC/DC 16hpBluestar 2E , DC Miller Thunderbolt225 AC/DC ArcLongevity 60 plasma

Reply:Even in the described condition, a running MM200 with spot control and a Spoolmatic 1 to boot is a great deal at $300.  Congratulations on the "new" machine.  My '81 has served me well with the only major repairs being replacing the six output capacitors after one blew that breathed new life into the old girl and replacing the original GA-20C gun that the gas hose deteriated to the point I couldn't cut it back to address a cracking issue. As for the faceplate on yours, get with a local sign/lettering shop that works with vinyl overlays and they should be able to duplicate the original to a T.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Thanks Duane.  How did you know it was the capaictor?  Is there a way I should test the machine upon receipt (other than trying to weld with it)?Good news about the face plate.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Sounds like you got a great deal. Congrats! They are out there. Kind of surprised you got it for the starting bid price. Don't see that too often unless it was a "Buy it now" price but even then you stole it. Good job.Eric

Reply:The machine also comes with the optional running gear for a dual tank setup. The duty cycle on it is 60% at 200A and 100% at 160A.  Obviously a pretty tough machine. I hope that means there is less chance for expensive part failure.  I imagine it would.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:Originally Posted by Drf255Well, I got it for $299 and it includes a Spoolmatic 1 gun and has the optional spot welding panel.   The add said the unit has been tested and works, but will need some hoses replaced prior to use.  The reason I got it is that alot of postings here have stated that it was the best mig they've ever made and that it's super durable.  Apparently it puts out more than 200 amps as well.  It is VERY ugly.  I will redo the sides, but are there any tips on cleaning up the faceplate?  The faceplate has the SN on it.  The machine was made in 1983.  Does anyone make a replacement plate?  I dont plan on ever selling the unit, but I want it to look presentable.  I believe that either rustoleum sail or safety blue is a good match for Miller Blue.  Thanks for all the help.
Reply:Now that I'm getting into this machine, it appears that it probably wasn't used a whole lot by people who may have been a bit clueless (not that I have a clue).    The machine is setup with .030 ER70S, but had the gun plugged into the negative plug. The tips a .045 tip.  The things covered in paint overspray and shop dust, but the inside looks great.  How do I test that this machine is putting out the power it should be?  Is there any simple test I could perform with a Votimeter, or with the test be cranking it to 11 and laying a bead down on 1/4" steel and seeing if the weld penetrates through to the other side?Hey Duane, my machine looks a bit different than yours.  Mine has a black faceplate and 4 knobs on the spot panel.  One knob for selecting continuous vs pulse vs spot, one for pulse time on, one for pulse off and one for burn back time.  I can't find a manual for one as early as mine.  The serial # is JD708216 which puts it at 1983.Last edited by Drf255; 08-23-2011 at 06:16 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
