Well I finally got to start working on my table this past weekend.I have the frame built out of 1/8 square. The top plate is 30"x60" 1/2' plate.I am going to bolt it to the frame and wanted to know how many and what size bolts to use.I would think fine thread might be better. I am going to tap the top and run the bolts up.The top looks like a rectangle with a cross bar in the center..I will post some pics this weekend when I pull it back out of the corner. Thanks for any help!Last edited by camarotech; 05-03-2012 at 10:48 PM.Syncrowave 250MM130
Reply:Camarotech, check out my table threads. I use just a few finer thread bolts that have flat heads. I used a mag drill to drill thru. I use a counter sink to accomidate the bolt head. No tapping. Pix galore on my table build threads.Miller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Reply:I did that on my 3/4" thick top, but I didn't drill thru. I picked up a blind hole tap for a couple of bucks. I will say I had to do some tweaking.. In order to use the shallow tapped hole, I ended up fitting the bolts a bit long, then adding washers (or grind them shorter) to take full advantage of each and every thread of engagement. My table is roughly 2 x 3' and I used 10 each 7/16" bolts. I like that I didn't have to worry about warpage. |
