tilt a flat table top

I want to build a drafting table but hey i want something artsy.Trying to think of some type of right i can turn a wheel and get the table to tilt? ideas?
Reply:I've seen a few commercial ones like this. Bike chain and sprocket comes to mind right away as the tilting mechanism.  Big thing to work out is how to keep the table at the angle you want it to stay at. Typically designs use friction clamps like knobs to lock things in place. Tilt table, then tighten the knobs to lock the angle. I've also seen pins used in holes to lock the angle. I can see the typical bent curve with a slot and knob set up working, but if you go with a bike chain rig, you might be able to use the bike brake to lock the chain mechanism.I'll be curious to see what you come up with. I've been playing with designs for an art table of and on for a year for my aunt who paints. I just need her to pick a design and agree on the cost of materials. I'm sure I can do it for what a commercial one costs if not less. ( my labor would be free , well a gift anyways).No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Think more along the lines of an a Frame drafting Desk that has 2 post extended. I want sometype of crank on the front or side that i can adjust the angle of the tilt.

Reply:Ok i have something that will work and look fantastic. i just need to find a cheap supply of 24" gears to cut in half and the spur gear that matches themGuess i could have it cut out of aluminum on a water jet and then age it etc..
