Reply:All of my rigs are 2wd, I dont weld cross contry pipe it it dont snow here. I cant recall ever needed to get any of them unstuck. Just drive with your head and stay out of spots you have no buisness in. look at the show your welding truck threadVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I am not saying that there is not a need for 4wd, as there is from time to time and some live in country it is used often, but most of the Time it appears that the 4wd is more status symbol than need, (welding rig or no rig). I have a few all wheel trucks on the farm, and the number of times they have been needed are to be counted on my fingers, been here for over 30 years, (and if the snow is that bad, I do not need to get out on the road and normally will not) most of the time I have needed all wheel drive is in a blizzard out checking cattle and even then if it is that bad it is not worth my life), 4 wheel or not high center it still will not go, and if your pushing mud with your axels your still stuck.
Reply:If your going pipelining see what the others have, 9 outa 10 prolly 4x4. The Keystone XL is slated to run 1.5 miles south of my place. BFE then turn south 4 feet. You would want 4x4. I think it would be easier on your truck as a whole, lugging hills, etc. If it starts in winter you would want 4x4. If your going to stay south and pipeline or rig weld 2 wheel might be just fine. Easier maintenance, repair cost, and mpg is better. All the pipeliners I know up here have 4x4 but its Mt. Your going to need it. I'm going to set up a heavier truck soon and it will be 2 wheel drive. I'm not pipelining and if its that hard to get to they can use a cat to drag me.Arcon Workhorse 300MSPowcon 400SMTPowcon SM400 x 2Powcon SM3001968 SA200 Redface1978 SA250 DieselMiller Super 32P FeederPre 1927 American 14" High Duty LatheK&T Milwaukee 2H Horizontal MillBryan |
