Okay....I did it. I had a shop built so I don't have to wait for nice weather days to drag my equipment out onto my driveway. I just refuse to bounce sparks around inside my garage -- just way too much stuff in there. It will still be a couple of weeks until I can move in but it will be worth the wait. The insulation and electrical work still needs to be completed. Attached Images
Reply:Very cool, I like it.  Reminds me of an assembly line.  Broken equipment comes in the back door, repaired and working equipment comes out the front! And if you ever get into a serious racing or aircraft project, you've got the foundation for a sweet homebrew wind tunnel. Just need a monster fan straight down the middle.  :-D
Reply:Interesting design dude- I like it!!Sent from my taco using TapatalkGo Cards!!!!!
Reply:Fantastic, I'm envious   I have a small shed (16x24) with a gravel floor and keep debating putting in a concrete floor. It's rare to see new construction in the old Quonset design.  I've always wondered why it fell out of favor.  I assume because of higher assembly cost?Ken

Reply:Did you price out the shop you have compared to a steel building?I'm curious about the cost comparison for the structure you have vs a comparable steel building.
Reply:if i were closer i'd wanna go in with you and we'd have a fuc*n tasctic shop! so jealous! my garage is burdened by things like my wifes car! Go nuts man, nice gig!Miller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Thanks to the esposa! Finally got an O/A setup
Reply:Thanks for the comments! You guys can appreciate having dedicated workspace and not having to restack things everytime you want to work on a project. I'm excited about the shop and just wanted to share with someone.Smokin and K45: The cost of a building of this sort is way cheaper because it doesn't require a foundation 4' down into the ground (to get below frost line) and all the excavation that goes along with it. The building sets on a 4" x 4" steel tube frame. The frame also serves as the form for the concrete floor. The crew erected the building in 2 days and then came back and poured the floor in about 4 hours. That cuts labor costs. One added bonus, I get to reclaim space in my garage and will soon be able to park inside.Gump: Not all of the cars/trucks are mine........I've got open space and relatives with no space and lots of cars/trucks. Some of them even have eyes on the shop. I'm not going to be handing out keys! I told them if they do park inside, I'll weld their doors shut.el bob:I live in Idaho..........when I open both ends, it IS a wind tunnel. That was the idea behind the doors...........I can open it up when its too hot and not be in a prison style sweat box. I will also be able to drop a trailer off inside and just drive on thru. Thanks again!
Reply:I didn't know it got hot in Idaho?  I've been wanting to leave Texas for your area for the past 25 years!!  Very nice shop!  Give us a show when it's full!!!!!!!,

Reply:The ground work was $800. The metal building was $6900 (18' x 30'). The concrete was $1900. I'm getting bids for the electrical work. The insulation is going to sting a bit......pricing out the closed cell spray on insulation with a thin coating of spray on concrete to keep everything fireproof. I already have a shop heater and welding equipment. I will have to build some work tables and shelving. I'm sure there will be a fridge and stereo involved too (also a neon clock and a poker table). It's starting to sound like a man cave......sort of looks like one too.It will be like having a small car payment for a couple of years, but it should keep it's value better than a car.Tim
Reply:Really nice!!  The two garage doors on either end are key.  A friend of mine has a garage with two doors on either end and he is terrible at backing up with a trailer attached to his truck because he rarely has to.
Reply:Very nice! What size is it?
