Can anyone suggest a source for Silicon Bronze welding rod with a Manganese content LESS THAN 1% ??? Haven't had much luck so far. Thanks for the help.
Reply:I would look at AWS 5.8 first and make sure the specification even allows for Mn under 1.00%Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Silicon Bronze mig wire works very well for TIG and is much easier to find.
Reply:Can you tell us why the Mn content has to be less than 1%? Silicon bronze (Everdur) has a nominal composition of 3 - 4% Si and 1% Mn but neither percentage is tightly controlled. Perhaps you could contact different manufacturers of filler metals and ask them the Manganese content of their current lot.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Thanks for the help, guys. Looks like 1% is LEAST amount of Mn by spec. The reason I was checking was to remove OSHA paperwork. I need to PROVE I don't use more than 500 pounds of Silicone Bronze rod annually because it contains 1% or more Mn. If I found a product with <1% I would not need to prove the amount used.Typical PITA.
