Hi guys.I'm new on here and am hoping to get some good informationIve been mig welding for a while now just for fun, making my own stuff and what not.I got a torch and tanks from my grandpa awhile back and have been playing around with it recently. The torch is an old Harris torch but is obsolete and I cant get tips for it anymore. So I'm looking at picking up a victor 100 series torch. The 100c or 100fc.My question is that these victors I'm finding have a ca1350 torch head. I'm trying to find out if this torch is a good one and have a good amount of tips and parts available or if there is another torch that might be a little better.I'm not doing anything heavy duty. Just something to practice and play with. My uncle is teaching me welding and cutting and told me th victor 100 series handles are great! So can anyone tell me about the actually torch? Thanks!
Reply:Yes, the 100fc is very good.  That is their smaller size torch.
Reply:On a related note to what 7A said, if you're going to buy new hoses anyway, spring for "Grade T" hoses which are rated for all fuels, not just acetylene.  That way if you decide to dump the acetylene and convert to propane someday, your hoses are already designed to support it.A 100FC / CA1350 was my first torch, and it was my only torch for years even after I started my welding business.  I still prefer a medium-size torch like the 100FC (Victor has a smaller-yet J-series) for general use.You probably already know this, but the 100FC handle has built-in flash arrestors, so that's one less thing you need to add to it.
Reply:Which Harris torch/cutting attachment do you have?  There are places that make odd tips and multi-use adapters. http://www.joeblowweldingsupply.com/...seadapters.htmhttp://americantorchtip.com/part-list?id=ADAPTER-HARRIS"USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:hi, it will help if you post your location. Does it seem like the regulators are working properly ? Post a picture of the setup. It maybe be safer replacing the entire setup with new. Buying individually can be costly. Here's a local supplier by me in Wisconsin, Welders Supply that has pretty decent prices. They have a NEW SMITH MADE IN USA for $ 195.00 .    http://www.weldersupply.com/P/317/Sm...eteMediumDutyO
Reply:Im in KC,MO.Everything works great with the setup I have. Ive been playing around with it and cutting with it all week. The torch works and all but Ive been looking around trying to locate a new tip but haven't found them anywhere, even eBay.The torch I have is a 19-2 harris handle and uses a 36-2 torch. Ive found brazing tips but not cutting tips.My uncle, who has been welding for a long time and has been teaching me how to use it and all. Told me that victor 100 series are great torches and is all he has used. Also since this setup is a little old, I will be picking up new hoses either today or tomorrow. There are some places locally who are having sales on them today for the new years.

Reply:I thought the 36-2 uses a 5090 and 5090-P cutting tip
Reply:Looks like the 5090 is a welding tip, not cutting. So are you looking for cutting tips or welding tips?  http://www.atlweldingsupply.com/5090_c_217.html"USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:Harris has two different pages for the same cutting attachment.  This one lists 3690 tips for cutting.  http://eu.harrisproductsgroup.com/en...odel-36-2.aspxThese guys list 3 sizes of propane tips and one size for acet.http://www.atlweldingsupply.com/Harr...ips_c_652.htmlLast edited by Oldendum; 01-02-2014 at 10:53 AM."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Ah okay because here is the one Im viewinghttp://www.harrisproductsgroup.com/e...odel-36-2.aspxWhich is showing the 5090 cutting tip.Looks like the "0" size is the smallest im going to get right now!
Reply:Well I think ive found a tip for my torch ill be getting. I guess I may have been confused on what I found on Harris website.I also need to pick up a new gauge. On the Oxy tank, the regulator has the 2 gauges. One measures the PSI for the tank, and the 2nd gauge measuring for the line or how much its pushes out the line.Well the gauge that is measuring the PSI for the Oxy line is to high. Its like a 500 psi gauge and has a crack in glass anyways. Are all the gauge fittings pretty much universal or the same? Can I just pick up any 2" low pressure oxy gauge from that altweldingsupply website?

Reply:Oh no no. Let me explain that. The gauge is a 500 psi gauge. Its just the wrong one. From my understanding I only need a low pressure gauge for the oxygen because the line is suppose to have about 50 psi through it and its hard to read 50psi on a 500 psi gauge. I just want to get a new proper pressure gauge for it is all and I was wondering if they were all pretty much the same thread size. It doesn't look like 1/8 so Ill pick up a 1/4npt gauge.I was looking at this one:http://www.atlweldingsupply.com/2-in...ge_p_1523.htmlYea my uncle told me to never use oil on the gauges, never use thread locker or any thread tape for the gauges and if you remove the gauges to always tape them up to prevent dirt getting in them because it will destroy the gauges and regulators.
Reply:No tape.  Just put them in a clean new sandwich bag.Yeah, a lot of regulators come with gauges that top at 200psi on the low pressure side for cutting.  I've swapped a bunch with ones that stop at 60psi.
Reply:If im just going to use Acetylene for welding, is the grade "R" hose just fine for that or is it better to go ahead and get the "T" rated hose?

Reply:So i did find a tip, thanks to all of you! Also picked up a few other things along with a new 25' Grade T hose.Back to my original question though because I would still like to pick up another torch.I do want a Victor 100C or 100FC.Just trying to find out if that CA1350 is a good torch.
Reply:YES!  I bought a vintage Victor 100 on eBay recently (not and F or FC, just the plain torch) for just $12.  Then, I sent it to a torch refurbisher and that was another $50.  So, $62 for a beautiful torch.  Your LWS can get you any tip you want for about $50 each brand new.  Torch tips are available for this torch all over eBay for fair prices (look for __-W-1 tips).  You won't be upset with this torch.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
