Microwaves aside, I am wondering if anybody has cooked with their welder, and just their welder. Example, ground and whip hooked to the same metal structure to produce heat/boil water, ect.. Would or can it hurt the welder?Heading to the lake this weekend with some pals and was wondering if it had been done. If so, post pictures. I know I can do charcoal...14' PowerMig 210 MP13'Burntables 5x10 CNC Table14' SAE300 HE on a 12' Ram 4500 60 CA 4x4. Reply:If you happen to know a heat stress guy, ask him to hook you up with a ceramic heat pad. I know they can get well above 500 deg. you wont hurt your machine unless you leave it under load for several hours...
Reply:Worked with a hand from Wyoming (Payton) that had a grill on the back of his rig that was wired to cook from his welder. Kinda simple really, copper wire with ceramic tubes that were 1" to 1 1/2" long.Classic 1D 200SAE 30086 SA 200Hyperthem 45Jancy Mag Force O/A Victor-GossCable's remote2-12" Mathey Dearman bevelersLN 25Miller Auto Set 211Wendy's Pancake/Jackson PipelinerNew Holland LS 180Great story man....tell it again!
Reply:I've read that you can cook a hot dog by putting 120 volts across it.Maybe you could do the same with a welding machine and other meat/food products.Put electrodes(nails etc.) in each end of meat, connect one wire to each electrode.Probably not the safest/most appetizing.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:done the hot dog thing, many a time when I was young, (we had a cooker that used 120 volts), we forgot it one day so we jsut striped some wires and cooked them that way,
Reply:Never even thought about cooking with my machines, though I did cook a bit of my lower lip last night in a jackass move. Was welding some vacuum ports onto an intake pipe for a Mk2 Toyota Supra, lifted my hood, and put the business end of the filler in my mouth to hold it. Whoops! I got lucky. I've used my mig to light my soldering iron.-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup

Reply:I could probably cook some food by laying it on the exhaust manifold if'n I wanted to...have run a toaster and toaster oven off mine quite a few times on long jobs.IMO, the leads are for welding/gouging/etc. The receptacles are for everything else.

Reply:A little off topic, I used to cook my lunch in hot asphalt, when I used to haul it. Left over stew or chinese, in a SS pot & lid, wrapped in foil to keep it clean. Get loaded at the asphalt plant, climb side of trailer, put pot in a divet, get to job and take it out, 350* F temp!!! I did it ALOT."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I would have at least put it up to $140hr.In the 5 days i do it, i will make about $2700 in my pocket. $1000 roughly in tax and $300 in travel, rods and disks.
