I am currently doing the certificate 7 tig course (Australian certification) it is on 90 mm, 3 1/2 " od pipe with a 6mm, 1/4 wall in 2g and 5g positions. I'm fine with everything until it comes to the capping run, my teacher is telling me it's is belly at the bottom to much, even though I am adding filler at the top of the weld. Could anyone help me with. My problem please? And could you post pictures of comparison welds that would/have past equivalent tests, mostly in 2g position Pictures are on my iPhone and I'm not sure if you can upload them straight from there so il get back to use with that

Reply:Yer close but no cigar, my teacher is a hard arse but I guess that's for my own good.Come on guys post some pics
Reply:Id say that would pass as long as it has reinforcement and no hollow bits, when i done my no7 i used 2 runs for my cap when doing the 2g, helps it from sagging.
Reply:Yep il try that next week
Reply:Tell your instructor for me... to Kiss your ***. Your weld looks damn perfect. Have him post a picture of his TiG. You have every right to be Damn proud of your work. Your instructor might think he is big and bad ***... but can he hang with Slowhand on a Pipeline? I'm gonna guess that Slowhand would embarass him six ways from Sunday.Josey

Reply:The first pics you have look as tho you didnt add enough weld when you were capping. But the last pics look real good. ALL TIG welds should be completely flush before you cap. Unless you are going to cap with 5/32 wire...Overall you have it all down pat from what I see . How about your bead?? How does it look?My hood and I... Till death do us part |
