Any tips on body position and how to maintain arc length and torch angle ? Just when tig welding any material really. I can go straight ok by dragging my finger along. I have been trying to rest my hand on my hood as well. Just trying to produce consistency here... I also have problems navigating around corners. It seems my body is a bit tense and I cannot loosen up my torch hand enough to make an arc smoothly. Any tips?!HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition.

Reply:If you are resting your hand on your hood you face it too close to the torch! Either that or you misunderstood the term 'overhead welding'.
Reply:I hold the torch and use my thumb on the side of the hood to stabilize myself. I have done that if I am standing and have nowhere else to rest my armHTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition.
Reply:Clamping a piece of angle iron to the workpiece parallel to the weld for support-hand "finger support" can be good too!XMT304 (school)SP125+ (home)HF 4x6 BandsawGood judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement. |
