Reply:Just a question. It looks like you must have measured an actual 70 amps? Was that at your max setting or did you have it dialed back a bit ?"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:It looks nice.  But MIG and Flux Core welds can look great but have poor penetration.Jack OlsenMy garage website

Reply:About twice that much penetration, and then welding the other side, and you'll be good Haha... Thats about what I thought it might be... Good test tho...[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009

Reply:yup, cold root and lacking penetration.  Maybe strong enough for somethings...but it depends on what the weld is intended to hold.  If it were just holding some metal together for something without alot of stress on it, I'd have no concerns...kind of expensive epoxy though .  If it were on something that was going to take a decent amount of stress, it'd be inadequate.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:These are GREAT threads! Should be sticky. I too will probably re-invent the wheel (or fillet weld as the case may be!)XMT304 (school)SP125+ (home)HF 4x6 BandsawGood judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement.
Reply:I'm not sure I'd say you even had 1/16" penetration into the base from the Pict Skelley blew up. Maybe 1/32" at the bottom given this is 1/4" plate. 1/16" would be 25% and I don't see that there..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
