I got tired of practicing my welds, so i built a couple of small projects. I know welds aren't the greatest or prettiest, but these aren't going to be subjected to a hole lot of stress so they should be fine.Mig gun holder. I wanted a holder for the mig gun that i could put anywhere on the table and be under the table top out of the way of stuff on the table. attempt #1: Used a magnet, pipe, flat, and angle. The magnet wasn't strong enough to keep attached to the table. So back to the drawing board.Atttempt 2: 1x2 tube, flat, nut & bolt, and pipeHere are some target stand made of 1 1/4 angle and flat, and 1x2 tube. Add a couple of 1x2 s, cardboard and ready to go blasting
Reply:Hey cool projects. Thanks for sharing.Great practice and usefull too. When I was starting out I would make small usefull projects too. The thing to remember is that even though they are small and quick is too try to make the best weld you can everytimeIt is easy to just fool around and not try to make the them really high quality. Plan ahead, envision what you think it should look like perfect and really try to do an excellent job with each pull of the trigger.I learned after a while I was getting lax at really good practices as I was making small practice items. Wish someone had coached me better back then, I would have gotten better faster.Again, thanks for sharing and show a pic or two with the targets with holes in them.
Reply:Neat gun holder. Projects are the best way to learn. I'd weld a t-handle on the bolt so it's easier to move from location to location... even with gloves on, without a wrench.Post the settings your using... maybe someone can help you get it dialed in. Some of the welds look a little cold... try turning it up a bit if possible. What model machine do you have? |
