I'm welding a shelf that will only resemble the shape and similar size of  the photo below: I have some 2.5" x 2.5" x 3/16" angle iron I plan on using for the four corner legs of the frame.  Each shelf support will be 1 3/4"x 1 3/4" x 3/16" angle iron.   I have four 5" cast iron swivel casters each rated at 800lbs I'll be attaching to the bottom four corners.  My shelf dimensions will be 7'H x 4.5' w x 24" D.    I plan on using this moveable shelf to hold full ammunition cans, so it's going to be ultra heavy.  I'm thinking around 2000 - 3000 lbs  of weight (bullets) will be stored on this shelf.  I have a gang-load of 7014's in 1/8" size.  My (dumb) question is, will the 7014 electrode reliably  hold this shelf together with this kind of weight, or should I spend the money on some 7018's?   I'd like to save money and start using up my "boat load" of unopened cans of 7014's I got for free a while back.  But, if the experts here think that it can't support this weight of the welded up angle iron, I'll buy some 7018 instead.  Thank you.A Liberal is someone who lives in a gated community with private security,  but says that a boarder fence won't work and people don't need guns for self protection.
Reply:7014's will be fine for your shelf. There's no difference in tensile strength in 7014/7018, the first two digits "70" is your strength in thousands of pounds.Sent from my DROID RAZR using TapatalkLast edited by JWDESIGNS; 01-18-2014 at 02:13 AM.
Reply:Lemme see here. 1000 rounds of .5.56 is about 30 lbs.Hear that humming noise ? It's a drone using the infra-red to do a weapons inventory. The Nazi party pulled the coordinates by yanking your ip off of this server.3000 lbs is nothing. You'll be fine.Last edited by Burpee; 01-18-2014 at 03:39 AM.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)

Reply:Agree with everyone - and as a bonus 7014's run really smooth too Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:7014 is a super easy to use high strength rod, but it is only suggested for applications requiring medium penetration, which in your case using 3/16" steel shouldn't be a problem....Run a few beads on scrap and give it the hammer/break test first. Also, concerning your design of the rollaround shelf...consider adding diagonal straps to rear and sides to maker her stiff nuff to handle side flex forces when rolled around.LOL, I thought I was well stocked with 5.56..sounds like you got me beat

Reply:This little Elzetta 633 tactical light is actually as effective as any first shot...It spits 650 lumens and is unbearably painful when used full strength at ranges you would find in any house/room....I love it It emits permanently damaging levels of light at close range. It and the mount are 280 bucks but I've got an old retired Navy bud that fixed me up with it free....He is an Elzetta dealer

Reply:Duplicate post.
Reply:That's exactly what I was looking for. I tried some test pieces yesterday and it worked fine, thanks to everyone's tips here. For some reason, my vertical 6013 and 7014's have always looked so much near "perfect," when compare to welding in the flat position. Vertical 7018's have always been my handicap! Most people get hung up on looking at the slag on a 7018 vert. up. and hold the center instead of the sides.. I'd rather run 7018 vertical up then mig or tig.. 120 amps on a bobcat DCEP and hold the sides.. slag just peels off like a potato skin! Good luck!
