New to welding, inherited an old (1934) AC stick welder 285 amp. with about 40 feet of leads, don't know the size of the leads no markings on them, but from the size of the cable I would guess they are 2-0. I want to add about 20 ft. of flexable stinger to both and was wondering what size cable can I use? I have never welded anything above 180 amps. and I was wondering if I could use # 2 , of should I go with #1 gauge cable. I only do farm and hobby welding most 1/2 inch thick and under. Mostly 1/8 inch rods , 6011,6013,7014,7018.mike
Reply:A 20' whip of #2 will be fine."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:#2 here as well.
Reply:For the last couple years I've been using a 30-feet long whip of this #4 red lead from ebay, but I rarely go over 130-amps, or I switch to wire feed. Here is a welding lead chart. http://www.ebay.com/itm/200407572333...3%26ga4m%3DT10http://www.islandsupplywelding.com/w...le-chart-3.htmDont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400 |
