I have an old old RC-10 welding machine manufactured by Rexarc. The unit is completely obsolete but still usable. My problem is the carriage step-over motor is not working and i can't get it repaired because thereare no drawings available. Already contacted Rexarc and they have nothing. Does anyone know who might have manufactured the motor used in the machine? I do know Rexarc did not, they purchased it from an outside source and have no records indicating who. It is a variable speed motor with a brass dial for speed control and has a timer. HELP!!
Reply:Pictures help with this sort of question. Someone may have seen this on another machine but will only recognize it by seeing the picture.
Reply:Check your local yellow pages for electric motor repair companies, or some that do motor rewinds. There may be one nearby that can possibly rebuild the one you have. I believe they are called stepper motors, not step over motors, but I could be wrong.
Reply:I haven't seen an RC-10 by rexarc but I assume this is either a wire welding gantry of some sort that welds continuous straight welds and has a J governor (step over mode) mode for overlay welding round parts.I any case the travel motor for the gantries could be anything from a cheap dayton AC/DC to a larger DC motors you used to find on large wire feeders. The simplest just use a micro switch in series for the step over and the better ones added a timer so the step over length would be more reliable. Good chance a starter and alternator rebuild shop can take care of any motor problems including any resistor type speed control problems. As for any micro switch or timer problems your off to the electrical supply shop for parts if they are bad.If this is something micro processor controlled I'd toss it and roll my own with simple parts.Good luckMatt |
