Reply:I wonder how it compares to http://www.harborfreight.com/pipe-tu...her-42324.htmlWelding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:OUCHOK I used brass bushings, but at $4.00 each I can change them out.Shipping Weight: 10.00 lb. on the HF
Reply:that's an awesome notcher.  I'm gonna guess it works way better than the HF one.  I have a JMR that's similar in design to the one aandy made.  I'm gonna venture to guess you might need to beef up the bolt that holds the two halves together... the one you loosen to adjust the notch angle. nice homebrew notcher.  Wish I did it, I'd be several hundred dollars richer
Reply:Nice notcher.  There is no comparison between yours and HF.  With the Hf you would have the honor of purchasing it, then putting your labor in to make it work properly. At the very least you would have to shim the HF to center it.  I agree with beefing up the crew.   Ironically, I have the JD2 tn-100.  I haven't used it since I purchased.  I usually hand cope with a bandsaw.   I have used a couple of the disposable Hf notchers, they were heavily modified for particular jobs.  I took the shaft out of my  first HF notcher and used it in my lathe.Anyway,  I am sure yours is much better.
Reply:I looked at the JD2, and made it hight adjustable. That 1/2" rod, the arm is attached to, is not welded in yet. The set screw-bolt, allowed some movement, so I added the bolt next to it to old it firm against the channel. no wobble on my first two cuts with the added bolt. I don't have a 3/4" drill bit, or I would have made the rod larger. If I have a problem, I'm not scared to cut or weld on it.Thanks Andy
Reply:Looks good, I was thinking about building one myself.  What do you use to power it? A corded drill? I was actually thinking about making one similar to the HF one. What's the biggest tubing that it can notch? http://www.philswelding.com
Reply:"I don't need a tube notcher. I don't need a tube notcher. I don't need a tube notcher. I WANT TO BUILD A TUBE NOTCHER! I don't need a tube notcher."I like it.There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:I used a dewalt 1/2" hammer drill corded, not much of a drill. got through the 1 3/8" pipe just fine, but a little fast. I'll break out a larger drill because it's variable speed. I don't have any thing larger to test it on. I have larger saw, just not tube.Heck, I didn't need a notcher either. What's holding you back?ThanksAndy
Reply:Sometimes a fella just needs some time in the shop.
Reply:see my smoker build thread and you'll understand what I've been doing with my time in the shop. and with a wife who's 37 wks prego, that's playing with enough fire right now. but it has maintained my sanity for the last few weeks. which is all I can ask. There are no problems. Reply:I know what you mean, I'm building a 4 burner propane forge, for working metal... its nice to have a project to work on, http://www.philswelding.com
Reply:Hey that's a cool looking pipe notcher, but how does the notcher operates or run, is it connected to a fanbelt ran by an electric motor ? This is a cool idea !!I did recently some notching on 1 1/2" pipes for a project and did it painstakinly little by little with an angle grinder dry fitting ones in a while the other pipe to be welded on it.  I bet that notcher will make it faster and more precise.
Reply:just a drill with a 1/2" chuckThanks
Reply:Thanks aandy767, I think I'll make one similar contraption or adaptation of your tubing notcher soon since I have more pipe projects ahead, for sure this will make notching them pipes faster and easier. Thanks man !!
