Here are 2 boxes I fabbed up this AM...First one is aluminum..#2 is steel...Both were cut from 1/8" sheet on the bandsaw and just touched up on the belt sander..No machining the ends or anything like that..The welder was set and left alone between material..Just the obvious settings were changed from alum. to steel and a fresh piece of tungsten was used on the steel..The welder settings are pictured in the thread..The aluminum was welded with 1/16" 4043...The steel was with .045 70S-2...The corners were done vertical up..I guess that's it so on with the pics..First batch..Aluminum..Next post.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I took a welding class a long time ago where we had to weld up a box with a torch and make it float without leaking. It's good practice
Reply:You should run a pulsed/ no rod bead on the edge of the steel one for a smooth/ rippled effect. Sign them boxes and put them up for auction.I don't see a "kill" setting on that welder... Fire!, Fire! Oh wait, that's my torch...Lincoln PT-225 TIGLincoln 175 MIG

Reply:A thread from the dead.... I know....But I needed a "box" to hold my scrap metal....... I found a couple doors off an old dumpster....... so made a "box" to hold my scrap....I welded cold..... and sucked in lots of fumes from the paint..... try to overlook all that....... Reply:Actually the beads don't look bad at all, though it's a bit tough to tell exactly how "cold" those might be from those picts. Outside corners like that are not as easy as many think. For something like that you really don't want/need a lot of heat. Usually I prefer to weld a bit on the "cold" side, so I can go slower and get a nicer bead. If you had run a 6" bead like that you'd have had no issues passing any of the outside corner joint inspections at the tech school most likely..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Fexal, This is the second post ive seen today about you inhaling stuff that maybe you shouldnt be. Im not telling you what to do, but you should take care of your lungs.
Reply:Looks like you were in a hurry to weld.  I know, ive done it lots of times myself, but from it learned that its important to spend the few extra minutes to clean /prep weld areas first.Makes for a better lookin' weld, less fumes and easier to clean later for re coat.I know you wanted us to "overlook all that", but from that comment, i think you already know this info ive given. Oh, and get a respirator.  3M 7500 series.
