I was in Home Depot and found this tool chest. Clearanced out at $159, original price $269. I asked them to check stock and the display was the last one left. It was missing the keys and had some light scratches on top. I asked for the manager and pointed out the scratches, no keys, and he took 25% off. Final price $119.. I'll make a undercarriage and tank support for it that will hold two of bottles. It fits my lincoln 180 dual very well and has lots of room to hold a plasma cutter when I eventually get one.The castors that come with it are really nice, too, so I will be able to use the swivels on the undercarriage. save even more bucks!!http://www.homedepot.com/buy/tools-h...html#more_infoVictor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.
Reply:I found a similar tool cabinet in the trash, instead of the bottom 2 drawers, there is a flap door that opens a big space that stores my bench grinder, angle grinder and welding helmet, the upper 3 drawers hold a chitload of clamps, consumable and other supplies. You'll get way more utility out of that cabinet than a cart and wonder how you ever did without this. The side of my cart has a semicircular hose hanger that is ideal for keeping my whip and ground cable in nice shape, too.I suggest that you install a similar one Good deal you got there, they can't say no (or yes) unless you ask, love getting a deal !When a welder tells you to "stick it", what do they really mean?"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell
Reply:I got the cabinet modeled in Google Sketchup. Now to start designing the framework.....Last edited by Housedad; 07-05-2012 at 10:49 PM.Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.

Reply:I did a little bit of work on the preliminary design.Rear tires are 10"x3" no flat with 4" front casters. Bottom perimeter and tree tubing is 1.5 X 1.5. Around the chest is 1". Most of the rest is 1X1.5 in the crossbraces.I haven't drawn in the hooks and hangers that will go on. The tank clamp system is a bit much for my lousy drawing skills, so it is not what will be the final. The design allows for two 120 c uft 7 inch cylinders.Btw, I was too lazy to draw my 180 Dual, so I used a welder from the web. All that was available was the Hobart. You get the idea..Here's some pics: Last edited by Housedad; 07-07-2012 at 04:36 AM.Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.
Reply:That's gonna work out well. If I did that I would need to add a engine to move it. Drawers would be too full to push. Just limit what you fill them with .I just get carried away. Looking forwardto your project.

Reply:I would re-use the casters..The weight would be no problem..Just a thought.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I like the design. I built one that is similar except my tool box is turned across the end instead of to the side. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=107801 this is a link to mine. Drb007 also made a very nice one using the tool box design. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=116951. The one issue i found using the tool box is that there is a lip around the bottom of the box. It is about 1/2" tall. Unless you remove the lip you need to fill it so it will mount to the frame. I used a piece of 3/4" plywood to fill the space.Making as much progress as a one legged duck in the middle of a pond, just going in circles.

Reply:Originally Posted by HousedadYeah, castors cost. The design above does use the original swivel castors from the tool box. They are 4" wheels and have a 260 lb rate each. Should be enough. They are SUPO part number Z03-01-100-201 on the following page:http://en.supocaster.com/products_de...105914771.htmlI plan to use these 10 inch wheels:http://www.handtrucks.com/hand-truck...tfreewheel.cfm |
