I'm looking to replace the plastic liner on my HF 151 with a steel liner. What Brand & Size Liner do others use for the HF 151?
Reply:Please don't say buy a replacement from HF as I don't want a plastic liner.

Reply:I thought I'd post this info in case anyone else wants to change their plastic liner to a steel liner. I must say by doing the following mods my Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 151 Dual Mig Welder runs a lot better & cooler thanks to "Bluewelder" on this board! Here's the mods I did along with the part #'s:1. Radnor Steel Liner 42-3035-15 sold by: Airgas Made by: TwecoOriginal Plastic liner O.D. - 0.156Radnor Steel Liner O.D. - 0.160 (fits perfectly in torch)Note: Pull off the little red plastic piece on the plastic liner near the wire feed & use it on the steel liner. You'll also need to cut the brass fitting off the steel liner. A pair of angle cutters work great. You'll need to strip some of the installation off to fit up in the torch. Then just use a small file to smooth the sharp edge off. You will have to cut the steel liner to the plastic liner length because it is 15' but you'll have an extra steel liner.2. Wire Feed ball bearings. Made by: HPI Part #: B045 (RC Radio control part. Comes with 4 bearings)Note: You will need to machine some shims either by cutting down the original bushings & drill the holes slightly larger so the shaft does not contact the I.D. of the bushing or you can use 2 bearings on each side. Grease you gears.3. 15' of 12/3 Power Cord wire. Home Depot4. 12/3 connectors. Home Depot5. 220v Fan. www.digikey.com Part #: P12898-ND (buy the cord with plug on it to fit the fan & soldier new connectors on it & junk the wire that powered the old fan) Buy #8 1/2" long screws. With these mods I don't need any where near to tension on my wire feed. Three threads show through the thumb screw. My wire speed also decreased from 6 to 3. My wire feed motor doesn't squeal anymore either.Last edited by oldscooliron; 01-21-2011 at 05:18 PM.
