Here is a couple pics of a backhoe bucket My son and I built. Well we cut the parts out together and then he broke his arm friday so I finished it up and welded it out myself. I am gonna buy some bolt on side cutters and put them on it. I just need to weld the fittings on it. I am gonna be out of town with work for a week so I painted it so it wouldn't rust if we get any rain. Critiques, complaints, or any other kind of feedback I would welcome.I also gotta get some bolts for the teeth too. Attached Images
Reply:very nice.. What does it go on?
Reply:Looks great. I am trying to figure out how it attaches to the backhoe.
Reply:He's probably got a quick detach frame that goes on the top of the bucketIt depends on the system used there are several different kindsWheres the middle tooth ?Even though you do most of the work with the outside teeth if you do any hard material your gonna need a center toothAnd the the side plates should go all the way forward to the end behind the teeth..because once those outside teeth  wear down it will start to wear on the side of the bucket behind the teethYou would be better off to put wear plate from the bottom (behind the teeth)  to the top on the sides of the opening where the wear is going to take placeAlso i would square the teeth with the face of the bucket rather than running them splayed Because it easier to put on a limiter plate across the teeth if there straightBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Did you cleat the bottom/underside, so it packs with dirt and wears against the dirt, rather than the bucket? Or just make it heavier to compensate for additional wear?Bruce
Reply:Killdozer, I think part of your issues will get resolved when he finishes the bucket. My guess is that the side cutters will fill in the "gap" left between his side plates and the front of the bucket, thus giving him a full wear surface at the front edge. I think the fact he painted everything to prevent it from rusting is skewing all our thoughts. Not sure why you need to worry about a bucket rusting though. I'd think the paint would be more of a pain to clean up for prep than the rust would be, and I've never seen a bucket that kept paint on it if it was used..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Hope your son recovers 100%. Summertime is no time to wear a cast- been there, done that, don't wanna go back.
Reply:Blue? Whats it going on? FORD? Whats that cup looking thing that looks to be welded to your binch?  Also, what happened to your binch I mean bench? Did it rust away? Its kinda chewed up. BTW nice work.
Reply:Well he said... Reply:There is a wear pad on it I just didn't flip it over to take the pic of it. I got side cutters to go on it just run out of time and didn't get them on. My son and myself are gonna build a portable backhoe. I got the cutting edge from bobcat so it has been predrilled for them teeth. That is what they use on their smaller bucket so I used it. I figure if it's good enough for them it is good enough for me. Attached ImagesLast edited by down19992000; 07-04-2012 at 01:05 AM.
Reply:Very nice work. Speedy recovery to your son.
Reply:How big of a portable backhoe? Heres one i did a few months backhttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...hlight=backhoeYa gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:That is nice. Mine will be a little bigger than yours. I was given a few 2 inch x 12 inch stroke hydraulic cylinders and a 12 hp motor and decided to build one with my son. You don't by chance have a parts list for the one you built do you? I am building this on the fly and don't have any blueprints to go off of. I have looked at a lot online to get an idea of what I wanna do.
